The place where everyone hangs out, chats, gossips, and argues

Chris isn't described as being on more than £1m from the BBC (although with book royalties and other income maybe his total approaches this?), but he is listed here and gets the comment:

The review did, however, raise concerns over the pay of radio and news presenters. It suggested that, as the BBC's network radio had no effective commercial opposition, it might be paying over the odds for its star names such as Chris Moyles.

My calculation of his worth is as follows:

5 laughs per hour x 3.5 hours x 5 days x 50 weeks / 8 million listeners = Value For Money

:D

Shouldn't that be times eight million listeners? Also, I think they're only on 44 weeks in the year, and there's not five days in each of those. You also missed out the podcasts and other downloadable material - you're equation should be far contain far more variables than it currently does.

It should be times, but then the equation looks boring.

I'm glad to see you are taking my joke equation seriously.

Feel free to correct, but show your workings. Let's get this correct to 2 decimal places!

You're right, never let the facts get in the way of a good (subjectively) joke.

There's a little too much subjectivity and statistical leg-work for my liking, I'm out.

I'd like to hear Duncan Wossname say that on Dragon's Den.

Also, neilt0.. you're linking to the Daily Mail web site. Seriously.

Seconded! Never a good source of unbiased, honest, finger on the pulse news (in my opinion that is!)

If, as I think, the point was that neilt0 thinks that Moyles is worth the money - well, in market terms I agree. The amount seems ridiculous but looking at it in the context of his peers I think he's a bargain.

I think Moyles is worth whatever they pay him. Someone is always bound to have a good moan about the wages of the stars. They're hardly going to stay about for the Channel if you reduce their pay to the minimum wage.

Even if the article is true (and I struggle to take anything the Daily Mail say seriously), I think it's worth the money considering Moyles does present (arguably) the most coveted spot in UK radio.

Wow, I'd not seen Jonathan Ross' wife before - marks out of 2, anyone?

That's a ridiculous statement - I agree he's worth what they are paying him, but you seem to be implying there should be no upper limit for him, which would be wrong for anyone.

All major news orgs are reporting this because the quote about Moyles apparently came from the BBC Trust.

Seconded. It's similar to footballers really, the amounts of money involved are crazy, but it's the going rate. At least you know that Moyles would still be doing the same job even if the going rate was 5% of what he is on currently. He genuinely loves the job in my opinion, as he has said many times. In his books he's said he spent plenty of time on terrible money doing local radio, and if you're the best in any field you'll always earn well.
