Has anyone else noticed this? Chris keeps leaving the mic to have a little cough to himself... Odd. Wander if the climb cleared his lungs out a bit and being back on the cigs hearty-style* is re-cloggin him up? He's not especially moaned about being ill, which he usually milks slightly if thats the case.

Hope all is ok!!

Sometimes I get the impression Chris annoys Dom. For instance when Chris said Dom was 46 Dom replied with "I'm not 46" but it was a serious "I'm not 46".

Anywho.

Nah, that's just a common thing with some people. There's a woman in our office who is 51 & doesn't look 51 yet ever mention her age (and this includes women) then she tells them to back off

Take note of how many times Dom says 'lustre' whenever Jo Whiley's hair is mentioned....

I find Dominic very funny and he has a brilliant voice, but he does have a very limited comedic range. That isnt a criticism as he is the newsreader after all.

Back to Chris' cough I have always noticed it and wondered if it just down to him being a smoker. If I knew someone who coughed that much I would tell them to get down the quacks and get it checked out.

The funniest thing I ever heard Dom do was the call into the late night chat show as they were all in the car on the way back from the curry house one night. That was bloody funny. He revisited the tractor theme again with the bloke from the Apprentice this week.

I reckon the hacking is just down to the smoking and early starts (it's usually worse earlier in the show). Really sounds unpleasant on the air though, even if he does try and keep it off mic.

I heard it again recently too, that's why it came to mind - was it on the New Year podcasts or something? Can't think of any reason why I would have come across it again...

I havent noticed it as much recently, but I just thought he had a cold or something. He may be cutting down on smoking and that can sometimes make you feel worse for abit. I had a mate who cut out smoking completly, and a few weeks later he was coughing up all sorts of crap, and my mum when she started to stop had bad coughs, but carried on back to normal and they stopped

I read somewhere that the after effects of the climb last for several weeks after you've returned as it takes a while for your immune system to re-adjust. Not sure how true that is but it does sound likely.

Funnily enough Ronan Keating was on a Irish brekkie show a couple of weeks ago and mentioned that Chris, because he smokes, had the least problems of any of the climbers adjusting to the thinner air, really not sure if Dr.Ronan is right with that...smoking good for you if your a climber 8O
He was saying there are many ciggie butts hidden under rocks on a certain African mountain after them!

When they first did the altitude training chamber tests before they went Chris found it easier than any of the others, and the doctor in charge of the tests said that people who smoke are already used to functioning with lower oxygen levels in their blood, so they tend to suffer with altitude less than non-smokers.
