Where can you get Ubuntu from? I want to try a new OS as I am bored with Windows now... I would like to expand my skills I think

What are the advantages of a Linux distro over say OS X? I've often been tempted to have a play with one, but never know whether I'd end up with anything better than what I've already got...

Linux's advantages over OS X are hardware compatibility, price and freedom of choice - you can have what-ever set-up you like, on pretty much what-ever hardware you like for free; if you already have OS X on a Mac, then the advantages for a normal user aren't that large, as the ability to configure every single aspect of the OS and userland doesn't usually enter the normal user's mind.

Other than that, they're both Unix's with a strong security history and a large array of software available for use.

You can download or request a CD/DVD of Ubuntu from http://www.ubuntu.com/. Also, you can get KUbuntu which is a KDE variant of Ubuntu (the interface is arguably more Windows-esque and far more configurable).
