I had two shout-outs this morning (28/08/09)! The first was at 6.30 when I sent a text commenting on Dom's weather forecast which led to a 45 second segment! Whay-hay! The second was at 8.20 when Chris was reading out the 'Gig' texts! I sent one after registering for the London gig, saying that I would love to go as I live in Greenwich and I could walk home!

Two mentions in one day!! Did the usual texts for Golden Hour but unfortunately no hatrick!

I'm listening to the show on the iplayer and bizarrely, 5 seconds after I finished reading your post, I heard your second shout-out! What a coincidence.

I got a shout-out on 6 Music last night, if that counts. It's obviously not as impressive as yours though as they have so few listeners I half expected the DJ to ring me up personally, thanking me for the message...

I like how Chris is clever and doesn't always do them as "shout-outs". Like, when talking about Tightwad Toby and had people texting in what they'd like Toby to get them for breakfast - reading out a list of a bunch of people and breakfasts might not be so much comedy, but it fits in a chance to mention a bunch of listeners without just going "hello to ____" and it feels more 'organic'. Golden Hour is a different beast, of course.

I agree with Chris. I hate the term "shout-out".

I do some voluntary work on radio and we are greatly discouraged from using that term. Personally, I don't really like it either.

I'm really, really hoping that Harris' promotion of the site on the show doesn't result solely in this type of thread (ie, newbies proclaiming that they've had mentions). It's a depressing prospect.

Aaah, I remember your mention at the beginning of the show. I text in last Friday on golden hour stating that i liked the song dom picked, and it got read out. Granted, he did say that there were three texts on the sheet, but all the same it was pretty unusual for me.
And yes 'shout-out' sounds too chavy-American for the show.
