In light of the fact that Vera Lynn (92) has just gone to no 1 in the album chart,is the chart really relevant to Radio One anymore? Should musics worth be judged solely on hoiw many copies are sold in a particular week anyway? Maybe Fearne and Reggies last chart show together next sunday should be the last chart show period.I would like to see it replaced by a show that gives new and undiscovered bands a chance to get on the radio,maybe hosted by Huw Stephens

The album chart is always a footnote in the overall chart show on Radio 1 anyway - albums are more Radio 2's bag since the official album chart show was on there every week until the last year or so.

The official singles chart is changing soon, is it not, to incorporate airplay as well as sales to make it more reflective of popularity (which is what rival charts like Hit 40 UK have been doing for years anyway). I still think the chart plays a vital part in Radio 1's output, even if (IMO) Sunday evening isn't a prime listening slot anymore

I've never considered The Chart Show to be much of a gig for any DJ. Looking at the last two inhabitants of this slot, JK & Joel and Wes before them, hardly went onto better things. That has changed now though, much as I predicted Fearne would go the same way, and this would be rightfully the death knell of her 'radio career' I always hoped she would stick to what she's good at, being easy on the eye for us blokes on the telly, I like her, I couldn't possibly not.

But, in a celebrity age where TV stars are hired for radio - Fearne (I hope) will shut me up and offer something unique to the airwaves.

As for the Chart Show itself, I'd rather just have top of the pops back, I miss seeing the acts performing live, rather than some little message to Moyles the Monday morning after saying "Hi, we're number one, enjoy our song etc".

The charts have been irrelevant for a long time. Gone are the days when everyone used to know what was number one for that particular week - I couldn't tell you unless you asked me a few minutes after Chris does his rundown on a Monday morning.

The chart show on a Sunday afternoon used to be a regular fixture in our house when I was a kid, it's where I heard my first chart music. I did try to carry on listening when I moved into my own place but really I felt it went downhill when Mark Goodier left - how long ago is that? I haven't heard it for years now. Does anyone know what the listening figures are like?

it's a bit presumptuous maybe. But although the chart show is not what it used too be in the sense of a big deal. Would you really want too lose 50+ years of history. The best bet i think should happen. Keep the chart show. But with all of us possibly in agreement that it isn't the same as in previous years. Maybe put a new show in the sunday 4-6 slot and have a 1 hour 6-7 for the chart rundown. Keeping top 40. But only play say 1 from 40-30, 2 from 30-20 and 3 from 5-20 with each of the top 5 played.

I think only the album chart means anything and has better quality in the top 20 overall, have not listened to the chart show for years, to me singles count for nothing for me there too much crap, oh yeah and the fact its presented by two morons dont help
