The place where everyone hangs out, chats, gossips, and argues

Hi guys, i know this has been touched on in another thread but was wondering what everyones thoughts are on the mass of guests that the show has had over the last few months?

I know some of it will come down to the quality of the guest but i think there has been too many! Guest=less team banter, which lets be honest, is the main reason most of us tune in, along with the great playlist of course!! ahem

also, do you prefer first time guests or 'regulars'??

Its always an issue at this time of year - people have stuff to sell, so the run up to Christmas is always busier than usual for guests. I have to say that they have all been a lot more fun this year than they often are.

I agree, i have enjoyed the ones i have heard and the best ones always seem to be the ones that go along with the waffle and dont really plug their stuff/shows/pantos!!

There has only ben one I haven't liked and to be honest I can't even remember who that was. It was someone who was dull when I expected them to be not dull. Who the hell was it?!

I love most of the films he has done and i love his humour, but he just doesnt seem to gel with the team on air and it seems a little bit awkward, as if they are laughing because they feel they should be, which is how i feel about his interviews-liking it as i feel i should be!!

But he clearly does gel with the team. If he didn't they wouldn't have invited him back on less than three months after his previous appearance. I think the problem is that his quite deadpan approach comes across poorly on radio if you arent interpreting it correctly.

I am not a fan of Will Ferrell the actor and his type of films don't appeal to me in the slightest, but I think he is an excellent guest.

John Bishop was poor and Eliza Doolittle was pointless. Chris has, to my knowledge, never expressed any opinion on her before and she was only on the show to keep the show relevant to younger listeners much in the same way N-Dubz were. The same with Chipmunk.

A few months ago I was annoyed by the amount of guests but recently I've got used to it. Chris is far better at interviews than he used to be. They always used to be about him talking about himself excessively, and the guest just being an irrelevance. Now, when a guest is poor Chris does what he always should have done and reverts to standard interview questions, rather than trying to flog a dead horse.

I've enjoyed the last few weeks of guests.

Will Ferrell is always fun when he comes on, has a laugh and gets on well with all of the team. For an American, he does gel well, gets the humour and plays along.

Weird Al was someone i have waited for years to come on the show, and didn't disappoint at all. The only downside was the amount of time Chris spent talking about his own album, but i guess he was giddy and excited and if i'm being honest, i'd have probably done the same.

Jimmy Carr is a tradition, as is Jeremy Clarkson. 2 totally different guests who are funny in their own ways, and come onto the show when they have a DVD out, but spend 98% of the interview talking about anything and everything.

There were a few that i really didn't give a shit about. I'd never heard of John Bishop before he came on the show, and i cant say i heard anything that makes me want to watch his stand up. Same goes for Tim Minchent - i dont get it?

Eliza Doolittle and Chipmunk were ok for what they were. I'm not a massive fan of their music, but it's not terrible. I dont know much about them, but then they new artists and Radio 1 has to appeal to it's younger audience, whereas i am old and getting more and more miserable by the day :(

Isn't he? I wonder if his television experience (he's got a hell of a lot better at that too) has helped there. He's developed into much more of an all rounder lately, which can only be a good thing.

I think his interviews are good as he is genuinely interested in the majority of the guests that come on the show.

I always like show guests, although I also love into-show banter. Some guests are always better than otehrs depending on your tastes, but they add a little diversity to the show....

I haven't heard it yet but he is usually brilliant - if he was only "quite good" something must have been wrong!

Well I missed the beginning of the interview which doesn't help and I didn't think he was quite as good as usual but probably because he was feeling a bit ill but nevertheless it was still entertaining.

Anyone else think Jimmy Carr's interview was fantastic? I was trying to record it but my computer spazzed and so now I only have the first 45 mins or so. :s Whoever has the whole thing is annoyingly lucky...

If anyone has any requests for the sound file of any of the interviews from the past 6 months let me know (either in the sound request forum or by PM). I've posted the Stephen Fry, Tim Minchin, Weird Al, Peter Kay and both Will Ferrell ones this weekend and I'm keen to further update the sound vaults (yes, I have no life).

Heard John Bishop on fighting talk, and on talksport a few times and he's usually very good.

Guess he was one who was only on to promote as I don't think Chris had heard much of him. They all sounded pretty awkward until he was going, then they seemed to click a bit more.

Will Ferrell was brilliant - he got it straight away.
