The place where everyone hangs out, chats, gossips, and argues

Why do they allways make a big fuss on the show when streaming on the webcam/red button about not wearing or covering branded clothing when Chris is clearly wearing an adidas tracksuit top on the Iplayer playback facility?

the BBC are not allowed to be seen to favour one particular company over another, unless they are given clearance in advance.

The issue with branding its hard to disguse some clothing brands totally. Like for example Addias which has the 3 stripes on almost all of their clothing which Chris seems to favour from his trainers, jackets and his Y-3 caps. Its hard to go totally unbranded. I don't see the problem with i would guess you are talking about the 2 regular black tracksuit top and hoodie he wears. You know what brand he is wearing but it isnt completely jumping out at you unlike Superdry or Abercrombie and Fitch. Which are two brands that a favoured by Dom, Aled, Tina and Dave.

As stupid as it seems there are people that get really annoyed by it and complain.

You asked it a question, thus inviting it to post even more crap. Nothing serious. As you were.

as a publicly funded organisation, they aren't allowed to be seen to be giving free advertising to other brands (and they're not allowed to use paid advertising either).

If I was working for Pepsi, and Coke were given full exposure on the BBC (without paying for the privilege) I would be annoyed and complain too.

doesn't seem stupid to me.

When did all this become a real big issue? I can recall several TV programmes of the past, and the whole brands thing is so much more relaxed.

A couple of examples:

The Young Ones, in one episode (I think it's "Boring" or "Interesting") Vyvian is clearly seen with a box of Kellogs Corn Flakes, they form a big part of the episode, they even mention Ford quite a bit as well, Vyvian wins a brand new Ford Tippex (the model is clearly an established one such as a Cortina or Granada though)

Then we get onto Minder of which brands I have seen in the background &/or foreground included: Smirnoff, Walkers, Daz, Fairy, JVC, John Smith's, to name a few

Also finally Men Behaving Badly, where Stella Artois, amongst other beer brands (although not as often) were clearly seen all over the place, this was in the 90's

I wonder why now it's all become an issue when these three popular programmes constantly had brands on screen?

I know its American and not BBC but on Chuck they walk in with a Subway meal and start discussing how nice it is and what is in it!

American shows are sponsored - you see it in the credits, "promotional consideration furnished by". 30 Rock have used Schweppes and Vorizon among others - they always make really OTT references to their sponsors. But the BBC is different, we're British :)

I never watch the credits. They're very rarely there on my illegal downloads...

Same here. I sometimes miss them, you know? I don't like the way the show just stops so suddenly.

I know, I agree but I think it goes a little bit too far when they're just talking and refer to something casually. Sometimes the brand needs to be mentioned because people might not know otherwise. Maybe I'm talking rubbish, I don't know.

No I agree, for example the whole iPod thing is ridiculous (generic fruit based MP3 player), dear God most people who have an MP3 player has an iPod, the only reason other firms would moan was because they were too slow of the mark to release their own (Sony were still peddling the MiniDisc as late as 2006).

In casual conversation it should be fine, it's only if they start saying "eat Walkers crisps, they're the best in the world" then there should be a problem.

I'd say:

McCoys>Kettle>Tayo>Walkers>Golden Wonder>Supermarket Brands*

*I say supermarket brands as I can't be asked to list them all.

Sat and today are up
