The place where everyone hangs out, chats, gossips, and argues

I missed it! I'm glad I did now and thanks everyone because now I won't bother "listening again"

(technically is it "listen again" when you haven't heard it yet? :? )

I hate the Radio 1 playlist. Seriously, it's utter crap, and if you listen to Radio 1 at work or something all day, you'll be hearing the same handful of songs at least three times each.

I listen to Radio 1 for the comedy skits, games, jokes and banter the DJ's have, not the shit music.

My listening schedule at work usually goes like this:

Chris Moyles show: switching to MP3 songs every time Chris plays a playlist track, cutting back when they start talking again.
Jo Whiley: May listen if she has a guest in, otherwise its MP3's all the way.
Edith: Again, if she has good guests in or they talk about movies I might be interested in, then I'll listen. Otherwise, MP3s.
Scott Mills: Same as with Moyles, if they are having funny chats and games, then I'll listen.

I'm definitely in the "more chat, less music" camp. That was even one of my suggestions to Amy when I emailed her - the first half hour of the show should be without music - it usually just interrupts a really good conversation!

It's interesteing to hear people's listening patterns. If I'm having a completley 'radio' day, I normally listen to Chris from about 11:00 (when I wake up - don't forget I'm a lazy student ;)).
Then I listen to Wake up to Wogan (which my mum records on her radio SD card)
Then Steve Wright and Chris Evans untill 7
Then at 7 it's Zane and the rest of the radio 1 evening DJs.

Yes I realise nobody asked me and I'll shut up now. 8)

Yeah I always think so too... my schedule has been all messed up for so long now! (Sorry for the random posting - my brief joining in here is probably long forgotten).

Generally though - I only catch bits of the breakfast show in the morning so I listen again once it's finished to fill in the gaps. Then I'll listen to a bit of Jo and then listen again to Zane, Giles Peterson and Mike Davies and sometimes a few of the others... Tend not to get along too well with the daytime playlist though...

I know most people won't be interested but was just interested to see someone elses listening habbits so thought I'd share mine!

I do agree - but surely that rule could apply to any time? If you want to listen to music you like you can just turn on your iPod any time. In that respects radio is quite an out-dated format.

RE: Listening habits, I record every show with a FreeView HDD/DVD recorder.

If I'm working, I'll also listen live from about 7:30 to 8:57 when I leave for work (I live very close to work!)
I have a radio in the bedroom and one in the bathroom.

I then get to work and listen to recorded shows from the FreeView box *(see Geekfootnote) all day. I have a tiny RF remote in my shirt pocket, so I can pause the show from the other side of the room if I have to speak to someone.
Essentially I have my own home-made, high quality (and very long) 3.5 hour podcast.

I used to skip songs, but now I use the songs as background if I need to concentrate on work. I like to listen to the chat while not working (no-one works all day really, right?) because I am a bloke, so can't multitask.

This means I hear part of the show twice, but right now it's so good, it's worth repeating and the best guests and "bits" are scheduled for peak time of 8:00 to 8:30.
If I'm in the shower, I'll often miss parts of that chat due to the splishy-splashy, so it's good to hear that again.

Because I often have to pause the show at work and I want to hear it all, it means I get a backlog of stuff to listen to -- at the moment at work I'm listening to Tuesday's show.

I did however hear part of Wednesday's show live and found it hilarious. Clearly Chris had been told off following the previous day's show because they had gone for half an hour without having to [IN RACHEL'S VOICE] "Play a record!" That was during the May/Hammond interview I guess?
With Rachel doing days, maybe Aled hadn't enforced the Radio 1 policy?
So Chris was doing a work-to-rule for comedy effect and obviously was courting complaints so he could shove them in the face of the muckity-mucks, which is what this thread is about!

Personally, I'd be happy with 3 and a half hours of chat, and if Chris ever leaves R1, let's hope that's what he does. The only other radio I listen to is Adam Carolla's -- he does a morning show in Los Angeles and that's 5 hours of nothing but talk (and ads which are removed from the version I listen to).

*Geekfootnote
-- From the Freeview box I burn a DVD of each show to a DVD-RW (takes about 13 minutes), rip it to AC3 with DVD Decrypter then recode to FLAC with DBPowerAmp. I listen with WinAmp through some good speakers.
I use FLAC only because AC3 playback of very long shows doesn't really work and FLAC is lossless.
After listening, I delete the FLAC and archive the AC3 shows = 256kbps from Freeview, much better than DAB.
I used to use a PC for recordings, but standalone boxes are more reliable, they don't crash.

Evidently we have 'got over it', because this thread has not been posted in for over a week. However, Moyles' show has always been less about the music than other Radio 1 shows.. the shows since the one broadcast on the date that this thread is about have shown that Moyles was just reacting to a bollocking by the Radio 1 management.

Incidentally, text speak is banned.

Wow, this thread's older than my time here. Bringing this up again must be like picking at a scab. People were getting over it, but now... I dread to think what might happen.

Nothing probably.

I think that show was less cack than any show Scott Mills has done. I really must learn how to tune my radio alarm to a different station, he sent me back to sleep today and I was only just on time for work!
