So Chris Moyles is in the news on his 40th birthday for a tax scam and you are discussing a nobody?
According to DailyFail, Chris fought to hush up his use of tax avoidance schemes. Apparently he claimed that it would breach his human rights if it became public. Did he really think or say that? That is a new low, even for someone who engaged in a tax scheme.

Breaching his human rights, come off it.

Massive news, can't be coincidence given the timing & sudden nature of it.

[wild-speculation]This would have significantly hindered Moyles' position in contract negotiation, with Chris choosing to step down immediately rather than have his application fail & be forced to resign.

Dave may have been furious as his media career was essentially fading before his eyes, or Chris could have advised Dave into the same scheme. [/wild-speculation]

If that's libellous or in danger of being journo fodder, do delete.

This all explains the lack of work since leaving the breakfast show. I'd guess he knew this would come out and rather than harming a current tv/radio job he's hoping this will blow over and then get back to work. It hasn't really damaged Jimmy Carr too much.

I was considering separating up the threads but as the tax discussion is kind of mixed in with the Jayne stuff, I've kept it all together. I'm guessing that when we asked "where next for Moyles", none of us thought "fined for tax evasion" would be the answer...

This is brilliant. chrismoyles.net is active once again!

The story itself isn't so brilliant, it just proves what an idiot Chris actually is.

Why is he an idiot? Not saying you're wrong just interested to know why you think that? Is he an idiot just for being caught out or for entering in to the scheme in the first place?

I just think it's wrong for him to avoid paying his tax, why should everyone else in Britain have to do it, I think the fact he got into the scheme in the first place is ridiculous.

I consider this idiotic, you don't have to agree with this but this is just how I feel. I no longer consider myself a fan. I like fat Chris better.

Did he? I thought this all happened after he quit the breakfast show? What was the other tax thing about? Is this the same one?

AHHH!

Pretty sure that's not gonna happen to me...

And judging by that document I linked to earlier it all happened in the tax year ending April 2008!

It's highly likely. They were a bit embarrassing on her part. All Ben did was ask a question and she got massively defensive.

It's going to be very difficult for him to find TV work for some time. From my experience of working as a Development Researcher (where I was equally ineffectual for both a medium sized company and a small, largely voiceless indie), you were on a hiding to nothing if you pitched a show with Chris Moyles as a potential host in the past, so there'll be no point in doing it now. I doubt bookers will book him for guest spots for a good while either.

He was already unsuitable/a bad fit for every other BBC national radio station, and his position has been even further weakened.

I imagine the odd cameo appearances on other people's shows will come to a halt too, and some of his celebrity friends might want to keep their distance.

Commercial Radio, however, will be chomping at the bit. If he wants to slum it, then London, when it gets a JACK fm would be a good place to go.

When it comes to scandal, for every Jimmy Carr, there's a John Leslie. Laying low doesn't help - he's got to get out there again, even if he can't reach the lofty heights of Radio 1.

Yes I have been told that she has, and she has actually now unblocked me and I have checked and she has deleted them. They do still show up for me when I go to my mentions though.

Chris seemed quite apologetic about this whole thing on twitter last night though. Maybe he really does feel ashamed about what he did. Or he's just a liar. Ah well.

Well besides not saying anything about it, what else could he have done? No amount of twitter bravado is going to help here. I have to wonder how many other celebs are currently in tax avoidance schemes like this one.

Also I'd forgotten that today was his birthday. He'll certainly remember this one.

Leave it to Aled to try and make the best of a bad situation. He's the only one of the former team to wish him a happy birthday on twitter.

Well to me those comments on Twitter didn't seem that personal but the sort that would be drafted by an agent/legal team.

He seems to have been either an incredibly naive idiot or something far worse the best interpretation of which would be that he's guilty of some willful blindness. If something is too good to be true etc...

Anyway off to listen to this old parody for the first time in ages...

He's clearly been stupid and/or badly advised, but careers have recovered from a lot worse. It's a question of whether he wants to put in the effort to make it happen.

Anyway, happy 40th Chris, put this nonsense behind you and get your a**e back on the radio ;)

Wow - how unfortunate!

Reading about it all, I kind of hope that he really was just naive about it all (I know I personally don't understand loads about tax, and leave stuff up to my accountant to deal with returns etc), but I suspect that when you're dealing with the kind of money that's been at play here, you'd have to be more aware of what's going on, especially with the seemingly obvious unrelated car business!

I do wonder if we'll start hearing about the others who been involved in the scheme, or whether Chris will end up taking all the flak for it.
