The speed at which both totals keeps climbing but especially the radio 1 total surprises me every time (now 916,232). Granted, Radio 1 has a lot of listeners but I didn’t expect so much to be donated to be honest. Its great news for Comic Relief and all of the climbers, also everyone who has donated should feel proud to have done there bit and been involved in this major fundraising for charity. 8)

Given that radio1 has 10M listeners and some people claim to have donated £10 or £5 then it's less that 10p per listener. If everyone donated just £1 then that would be fantastic. I'm sure people have done loads of other stuff or will but it just goes to show the potential that is out there.

That's exactly right. I think that's why it's fabulous that for those people that don't have a credit card or access to a computer or very much money, can donate by texting 'climb' to 88808 for the £1. That's not much money and the fact that the charity gets 100% of it is what makes it so worth it. I think that's why it is so very important that they keep plugging away and advertising for this. Some people may not know that the texting feature is now available. That option is making a huge difference in the total. £1,028,000 plus? Fantastic!

I said ages ago that they should have opened up text lines much earlier. Tis the only way I can donate. I do like how they are saying "if you can't afford to then don't" it adds extra guilt to people meaning they get more money. Very clever.

I don't think that's why they're saying that. I think they genuinely realise that some people literally have no money to spare and are therefore saying that if you can't do it, you can't do it. Yeah, it's only £1, but some people haven't even got that. Quite a large percentage of people have been made redundant recently.

I was in tears just now at the bit Chris recorded before he went away with a plea for donations. I've heard it before but it really moved me this morning.

I feel such a part of this effort now, I'm completely humbled by the lengths Chris and the Killi team have gone to and I am so proud of all of them.

I personally don't think anyone should feel pressured or compelled to donate to any charity that they don't wish to. However - I also don't believe that there are very many people - if any - in this country who couldn't afford to donate a pound to a cause which touches their heart. I wonder if the huge donations this year are party because so many people have had a taste of hardship, and realised that its relative, and poverty, real poverty, isn't something that they will actually have to face in reality. I don't want to trivialise the circumstances of anyone who is really in trouble at the moment at all - Mr Y works in the City, I was made redundant last summer, I understand how precarious things are for us and lots of people. But like I said, its relative isn't it. However much we lose we will still have more than millions of people over the world.

Yudster is always right, have you not learnt that yet?

If we take Yuds post as correct then the total so far - fantastic as it is - is not so brilliant is it? How many million listeners does Chris have?

Ah no, don't go down that route - charity is personal, and if people choose not to donate for whatever reason, no-one has the right to point a finger at them.

Well, nearly always.

I think regardless, the total so far is far more brilliant than they could have believed they would get. You're never going to get everyone to donate and realistically, probably only a small percentage of people will donate; so to reach a million - which has never been done before - is totally fantastic.

I'm just curious as to how only about a sixth of Chris' audience have been moved enough to donate. Guess I'm just too soft.

Chris, Ben and Kimberley to go - come on!

...and by the way, the total (the overall total) currently stands at over a million and a quarter. £1,274,267 to be exact, with £1,151,182 coming from Radio 1.

Oooh, oooh! About the sixth edit to this post:
The RedNoseClimb Twitter updater wrote:Ben, Kimberly and the man Moyles make it too - that's the lot - everyone is going for the Summit! Fantastic effort.

The RedNoseClimb Twitter updater wrote:The team are in fine fettle - they will rest, eat and kip now ahead of a midnight attempt on the peak.

Brilliant news.

You know what, for all the detractors Twitter has, it's proved an invaluable source of information in this particular case.

The point is that they are allowed to not be moved. And as to why, no-one has any right to speculate, assume or even ask, unless they volunteer the information!

This is actually the first time I have ever donated to a Comic Relief campaign. I normally have my charity "efforts" organised a year to 18 months in advance, and budgeted for in terms of time and money. I don't like Telethon type appeals because I would rather donate my money to a specific cause - when you give to Comic Relief you may be inadvertently donating to an organisation which you would rather avoid, so I don't do it. BUT - the climb did it for me this year. Thats the only reason. If in previous years anyone had questioned why I hadn't donated I would have been happy to explain - but I wouldn't feel that I was obliged to explain, and neither should anyone else.

That’s good news they all made it, only a big push to go. I imagine there reaction will be brilliant to the total, as the total has been kept quiet to be used as a moral boost. The overall total currently stands at £1,274,267, I can see this rising when the documentary comes out and people see the conditions they were battling, and how hard it was with there own eyes. If this happens which i think it will, it is possible the total could eventually reach 2 million or maybe more.

On another matter I think Gary has done extremely well considering he was a large doubt with his back injury, which I understand is still giving him grief so well done to him, and the rest of the team.

Edit : Overall Total has changed since i corrected my post due to bad spelling it now stands at £1,303,998.
Radio 1 Total : £1,151,182 therefore £152,816 is from non Radio 1 Listeners.

I was thinking about this this morning when listening to them all talking from the mountain. I think they'll easily reach £2million overall. Remember they've all written out to their friends etc asking for donations. With Gary, Ronan and Chreyl/Kimberley thats 10 celebrity donations from other band members alone. Imagine if they gave £5k each, thats another £50k. Chris is to collect from the likes of Lewis Hamilton (£10K) and Bono (£6k). Come on celebs - dig deep!!!

On another note, how much do you think the Moyles team have donated this week alone through txting whenever they're plugging the text donations, a fair amount I think!

I would imagine £6k from Bono is way under value. This would be a cause that is right up his street, so somewhere near £25k would be more the case. Of course thats a figure plucked from the air. 'Only £16k' from Lewis and Bono would seem a very conservative estimate.

Yeah, but Bono likes to shake the charity tin, rather than put in it himself.

Well, I don't know about that to be fair... but he's a charity tubthumper. If it's true, this would tend to suggest he's a tight arse.
