The place where everyone hangs out, chats, gossips, and argues

When moyles left afternoons and started mornings i stopped listening as i wasn't ever up that early in the morning. When i started listening in the morning I didn't like Dom either, his little quips and asides just didn't seem as funny as Dave could be, and Dave seemed a lot less vocal. At some point tho the switch flipped and I quite enjoy Doms humour now. Its still not as good as the afternoons tho IMO, and I can only really put that down to 'the team'. Just seemed to be Chris, Dave and Kinder in the afternoons, those were the days.

Naa, Its so much better with the whole team. Even Matt adds a lot to the show at times (I know he does a lot of behind the scenes stuff but i mean he adds to the verbal side of the show).

I wonder if Matt will play a much larger role in the show in years to come. In my best Louis Walsh impression, he reminds me of a young Aled when he used to pop in to just do the Big Brother bits.

I wonder this as well, I did hear a jingle this morning that mentioned his name along with the rest of the team.

I think the role of BA on the show, on air, has changed so much though over the last ten years. When Melinda was there he used to participate in with the conversation for quite a few links (some he'd miss out but he'd be on most of them), and not just off to the side but on an actual dedicated mic. Rachel was the same on the Saturday Show. It was the producers (Rhys & Will) that used to be heard off Mic, although when Melinda left this changed with Will always been on mic & Lizzie sometimes being on mic or heard off mic, and in particular with Lizzie a special switch she flicked, like an intercom, if she was busy doing something else & couldn't join them in the studio.

It seems that after Mel left the BA has always been a bit more of a background team member, funny thing is that before Producer Richard (he who didn't speak) this was the same back then with Producer Ben appearing more on mic.

I suppose Melinda was just lucky that after Ben left Richard refused to talk on air & so he essentially got Ben's mic. He seemed to prove very popular (especially with the ladies) and so was kept on a main mic all the time it seems, of which with the exception of Rachel on Saturday's never happened to the rest of the BA's.

Nice knowledge!

You probably know that I only started listening to Radio 1 in 2001. I don't know if Melinda or Rhys were around at that time, but I don't really remember them. That's why helping you upload the earlier afternoon shows has been interesting. I seem to remember the jingle at the time referring to 'Chris, Dave, Will and Lizzie'. Not long before Lizzie was replaced with Aled.

What I do remember was that M.O.P's 'Cold As Ice' was a big hit when I first tuned in to Radio 1. So make of that what you will :D

I think Dom is brilliant. I love his laugh too.

He dosen't sound forced and infact sounds very natural and how I would like more newsreaders to sound - just because he makes you listen as he is interesting.

I tried to, silly as it sounds I was so pleased for him, to be able to meet your idols and spend all day around them must be the most amazing thing even in the sort of job when you meet famous people a fair bit. Can't wait to hear about it tomorrow!

I love his laugh, when he really gets the giggles his voice goes all high pitched.

I think the way he can go from that, to being dedly serious within a matter of seconds is amazing, i couldn't do it, and i doubt many could.

Thanks (some more being sent on later this evening). Rhys left around September/October 2000 & returned as Executive Producer in 2005 but left sometime between 2006/7 (He was there for the 2006 World Cup but may have left a little while after that).

Melinda's last "Live" appearance was Thursday 21st December 2000 (he didn't do the Friday as the team were up North somewhere on the Friday & there was no point of him traveling up for the one show) although he does appear on the Christmas Day show (which I have, unfortunately missing the last half hour, and was on tape, of which they played a joke where the link jumps all over the place to show that it's recorded.) and then his single re-apperance is when they decided to call him up whilst he was in Australia at silly O'Clock in the morning and pretend to be David Beckham (the clip is on here somewhere).

They were Radio Ones Delta Force!

There was several, which IIRC started with Rhys still being there (I unfortunately don't have an example of it, the last Rhys (on air) apperance I have is the 15th September 2000 show which was recently uploaded.

IIRC the ones they had were:

Chris Moyles, Comedy Dave, Melinda & Producer Rhys, Sexy Radio For A Sexy Generation
Chris Moyles, Comedy Dave, Melinda & er, Will, The Real Dream Team (It's very useful indeed having arms as long as Chris Moyles On Radio 1)
Chris Moyles, Comedy Dave, Thin Lizzie, Oh where did you spring from, & Will, Sexy Radio For A Sexy Generation (Dude That Kicks Ass)
Chris Moyles, Comedy Dave, Thin Lizzie & Will, The Greatest Radio Team In The History Of Broadcasting
Chris Moyles, Comedy Dave, Thin Lizzie & Will, Radio 1's Very Own Delta Force

There may have been more but that's just at a quick check on some of the sound files I have.

I didn't look at Twitter but was very pleased for him seeing as he is a big fan of them & as I am a fan of U2 myself I was jealous

Absolutely, he can be serious when needs be & be silly at appropriate times as well, quite a skill.

Newsbeat as a whole is pretty dire I agree. Still love Dom though.

Well Newsbeat has to hold the attention of the "younger audience" although I always liked Dom & Georgina on Newsbeat as well as Carolyn and Claire Kavaner from yesteryear.

Newsbeat was very good and intelligent, but has really dumbed down over the last several years, the "younger audience" its aimed at seems for under 12s and the auidence average is much older I miss Rob Makenzie doing it when it was excellent and more intelligent.
