The artcle doesnt actually say hes going toleave the station-just breakfast-if he was going to go back to drivetime that wouldnt be such a bad thing.I think Chris is getting fed up with the early rises anyway.Quite a few breakfast DJs moved to the afternoon or mid morning slot after finishing on breakfast-Tony Blackburn Dave Lee Travis and Simon Mayo for example

We don't plan on shifting him. His contract is up for renewal so we can't say how long he'll want to stay in the job! Go ask him yourself ya spineless bunch of lie peddlers.

How is that hard?

I couldn't read the article last night, only read it this morning online. It was pretty much exactly what I expected.

I wish this corrupt and spiteful medium would hurry up and die already. God bless the internet!

FOR CRYING OUT LOUD, PLEASE STOP CALLING HIM 'MOYYYYYYSEY'! Do you know there's an 'l' in his name? And only one 'y'?

What makes you think he's getting fed up with early mornings? What possible evidence could you claim to have to back this up?

Anyone got a link to the BBC denial of the story?

No, but I heard it on Newsbeat this morning.

If that does happens (as musch as it pains me to say so) i would catagorically say out loud noe that i would never listem to any radio 1 show again

Have they asked the listeners what they want? So what if he is past the 30 y.o bench mark my uncle in 46 and still listens to radio 1 religiously.

If he does "leave" radio 1 lets pray to god, buddah and all the others that radio 2 snap him up and replace wogan with him. Oh and lets also hope that the rest of the team i.e comedy dave, dominic, carrie, aled and rach (leave fincham there) go with him.

I have the sun delievered every day but i may just cancel my order unless they start publishing fact and not smear campaigns and utter bollocks

MY RANT = DONE

I think that the trouble is that the Radio 1 hierarchy don't want 46 yr olds listening to the station. It's clearly only a matter of time before Chris is gone, same as Mills and all of them once past 30. This is his best chance for his TV career starting, if it doesn't take off with the profile he's had recently it never will, or else he'll be stuck in radio backwaters.

Did you also notice the little section of 'Gordon Smart's view' basically backing what The Scum are saying (I don't know why that suprises me) but he's so annoying!!!

AAAARRRRGHHHHH! For crying out loud, the article is in one newspaper. A newspaper that is notorious for fabricating stories and 'stretching' truths to say the least. As I said, it's fine if you read it, but please for the love of humanity, accept that quite a lot of it is bullshit.

As for not wanting 46 year olds to listen, that has already been dealt with in this interview with Andy Parfitt and Ben Cooper (previously posted here). The interesting quote - which is very relevant to this discussion - is this:
Given that Parfitt and Cooper have ambitious plans for Radio 1 and its digital sister station, the black music-focused 1Xtra, does this mean they are prepared to jettison older listeners? "If that's the way it worked out then nobody here would be panicking," says Parfitt. "Our job is to reach young audiences but I don't ask Ben to deliberately make a 32-year-old go away. The important thing is we are not targeting that group."

As Cooper explains, with a tinge of frustration, "people refuse to grow old these days". "Ben is right," chips in his mentor. "It's an absolutely clear societal shift, music tastes have converged and people want to remain young longer. We are not targeting the over-thirties."

Topher, this is the point you're missing. It's not okay for people to read the Sun. Because every time someone buys that rag it's another in their circulation figures. This is the thing that keeps them going. This is the figure that they strive to improve on through any means necessary.

As has already been pointed out on this thread, this is the same newspaper that printed so many disgraceful lies about Hillsborough. The very fact that they are still around is a sad testiment to society.

People NEED to stop buying this newspaper. They need to be hit where it hurts. They need to be wiped from existence. Because if they're not, they will continue to print their lies and ill-informed opinions. And the stupid people in society will continue to believe it.

If you don't think that, ask the Justice For The 96 group. They're STILL fighting back after the lies that were printed 20 years ago. That's how powerful the position that the like of The Sun are in and so carelessly flaunting for their own needs.

I've spoken to Ben Cooper this morning (Deputy Controller) and Caren Davies (Head Of Press) and this story isn't true.

Will Chris and the team be moved after Septemeber - yes of course - but that could be December, next year, 2 years. Ben and Andy haven't decided what's happening to the show, because at the moment there's no need to decide.

The writer of the piece was Gordon Smart who is the Sun journalist who had his piece ripped apart on the show a couple of weeks ago when he wrote the piece about how great Scott had done at the Sony's whereas Chris "only" got one - for Best Breakfast, when in reality both had receieved one Sony nomination.

It is also true that if Chris isn't doing breakfast Scott is. That's not press worthy - it's been true since January 2004 - and everyone at Radio 1, not just Scott is aware of this.

I'm sorry you as fans, and we as a team who love making the show are getting dragged in to journalistic agendas.

Roll on September when we will become the longest breakfast show in Radio 1 history!

Nice one Aled. It's a cracking programme and long may it continue. It brought me back to Radio 1 for the first time since the early 90s (listening with my dad! ). Every station aimed at the youth needs to have young blood but providing it still remains relevant to those people, DJs being in their 30s should be largely unimportant.

Moral of the story: don't trust the tabloids! Or the broadsheets. Or the TV news channels. Or the internet news sites...

Hmmmm.

Maybe the moral of the story is don't trust the media at all?

Thanks for clearing it up by the way Aled!

I've hated The Sun since they pretty much ensured Thatcher got into Downing Street.

thank you aled for clearing this up. I hope that the show will continue for years too come. It will be a sad sad sad day when chris leaves. I know you (aled) rachael. Dom. Carrie. Matt will have a job after chris leaves or gets fired. I know in reality it won't happen. But i guess we would all hope that you all would walk and join chris where ever he would move too.
