Jo never worked for me on weekday daytime, or in fact any daytime. I still think she works better as a specialist presenter.

Having said that, I'm not looking forward to Fearne much. She actually isn't a bad presenter in some ways, but her voice has annoyed me consistently since I first came across her on CITV about eight years ago (she's a similar age to me, so why I must have been watching that I have no idea). She sounds like a pre-pubescent boy rather than a grown woman.

I don't dislike Nihal like a lot of other people seem to, and I will miss him a bit at weekends, but (and again, this will put me in the minority) I am not a Greg James fan at all. In a way I am glad he's getting early afternoons though as one of the things that annoys me most about him is his overexposure on other peoples' shows. Now that he's got a decent slot, maybe we won't have to be constantly reminded during the rest of the schedule that he exists. Then again maybe he just likes to spread himself around and it'll continue as ever.

I forgot to check whether Fearne will still be presenting the Chart, so had better check. I'd been back listening to it recently (to see how MJ's tracks were charting) and decided I much prefer solo Reggie to solo Fearne.

Do you know I completely skipped over the original post, didn't realise it had been made until others started quoting it. I must be tuning them out!

^I must admit, that was actually quite amusing. The Fearne/Holly best friends 4eva thing does get on my nerves.

I bet Jo Whiley took this week off so she wouldnt be on air when the changes were announced.poor Edith hasnt mentioned it at all yet- she sounds a bit gutted though.I feel sorry for her.One minute u think ur careers going from strength to strength and the next...

this quote from Edith isnt entirely convincing..

Quote from Edith Bowman: "I've loved doing the afternoon show, it has given me so many great experiences but after five years I believe I've taken the show as far as I can.

"In that time my life has changed in many ways and moving to the Weekend Breakfast Show will give me far more flexibility to pursue other broadcast opportunities and personal goals that I haven't been able to take up in the past.

she actually makes i t sound like it was her descision to get up at 5am on saturday and sunday mornings to do a show which is normally presented by untested newbies with 90% of the stations target audience still asleep in bed!

Sara Cox pre-records her weekend show. Can't see why Edith wouldn't do the same.

i'd agree with that yudster regarding sara cox. I would think that it would be to do with sara's kid. Other wise i would think that sara would have taken the 10 - 12.45 slot.

I think that chris can stay on after next july. Andy parfett will NOT want the figures too slide. The next rajar figures i will expect chris to surpass terry wogan in the ratings.

I am pondering if edith's move too weekend breakfast is a promotion or a side move.
My reasoning is that the weekend breakfast show is possibly the 5th biggest job on radio after
Weekday breakfast.
Chart show.
Drive time. (equal with chart show)
Late night. (John Peel 10pm - midnight)

I think greg could have quiet a few years on 1 - 4. Radio 1 can build this up too be the new mark and lard.

But what would jo's slot on weekend be. I assume the live lounge will stay on fern's slot. So what is jo's role now. She has built her whole radio 1 career on the live lounge.

Overall. I think that if radio 1 is too continue too thrive and succeed radio 2. I feel that if this schedule is kept for say the next 3 - 5 years. Radio 1 will be the highest rated radio station in the country.

no trust me weekend breakfast is either used for new DJs to be tested before getting a betetr slot or its the graveyard slot for DJs who are on their way out.Dont expect Edith to stil be working on Radio One by the end of next year. She'll either be axed or get fed up and quit within a year.Jo might survive a bit l onger, but generally their both ont heir way out the door.If Jos lucky she m ight get a weekday slot on radio 6 m usic next year.

I'm glad that Jo Whiley is finally getting off day times because I'm not keen on her but most people I know hate her.

Edith shouldn't be moved because she's still very energetic and the movies thing is 'her thing' to be honest.

I think that Greg is alright, but he's too similar to Scott to have them next to each other, it might be a bit repetative or clash.

I'm not sure Fearne is a strong enough presenter to do her own show beacuse when either her or Reggie are off and they fly solo, you can notice straight away.

I'd like to have seen them draft in someone new from outside the BBC to do the early breakfast, someone decent from a local station much like with Chris did coming from Capital etc. rather than a 1xtra presenter..

I may get put off Radio 1 in September, but we'll see :(

Ed Pummelon wrote:As some wag posted on Twitter: Fearne Cotton replacing Jo Whiley on Radio1 is like escaping a house fire only to be run over by the fire engine.

I saw that too. The other one that amused me was: "Fearne Cotton is a broadcasting atrocity but I think she's kind of cute. I am disappointed with myself for thinking this" (only half of which I agree with).

Well she would've known about it for a while. It's not like they find out when it gets announced to the press. Surely with all you 'inside info' you knew all of this was going to happen anyway, right?

I spoke too soon-Edith is starting to argue with a few posters on twitter-its becoming clear shes pretty angry about th ings...Shes accusing one poster (4_5_6 )of working for the press!
take a look at http://twitter.com/edibow .Its very revealing about her true state of mind!

OMG someone claiming to be the radio one boss Ben Cooper is talking to her now. LMAO

Yes yes yes yes yes. I really wish Radio 1 would move in this direction more. Or look to student radio, like they did with Greg. That worked well didn't it? I mean he's not exactly my cup of tea, but he's head and shoulders better than anyone else except Chris.

It's definitely her. I've read tweeted conversations with guests, which have then been mentioned on the air.

I must admit I do sometimes think Twitter celebs let their guard down a little too much and make themselves look a bit daft on occasion, but does it really matter? They're human, and as Yudster said, it's hardly going to affect their careers.
