Surely though, as Dave pointed out after looking at the text - If it was an April Fools - it would have been far more effective for him to be next door on the phone? Rather than just lateness which does happen occasionally.

Looking at this thread, seems a shame to whinge when he's on air, he's off air for a couple of weeks now. When he's away, withdrawal symptoms on this forum usually include a bit of Mills-bashing. I don't know whats worse, this, or that. Still, I'm sure there'll be the usual tail-between-the-legs treatment when he's back on the air 'I don't know how I coped this past fortnight' etc.

I thought that when I made my post but I realised that even though I will miss the show greatly in the next fortnight that doesn't mean Chris is immune from criticism. Every morning for the next two weeks I will feel slightly deflated when I realise Mills is on and I will feel genuinely excited when Moyles is back, but he isn't perfect and the lateness issue is a significant annoyance to me.

I do wish I'd been up to listen live for this one. Like you, I would've been a bit miffed, but then, in the world of random phone calls, he starts talking about Bloomfield Road, Dave just didn't seem to know what to do, I see it more as an insight when the lateness occurs. A lot to be said for the legendary duo that is Chris and Dave, the magic of the opening link is lost, a normally relaxed half hour becomes unpredictable.

April fools or no April fools, the phone calls make crap radio. The sooner he realises this, the better!

As I mentioned in the April Fools thread I only heard rather late into the opening link when Dominic said Dave also had to disappear. In all honesty the "phone links" don't really annoy me at all, but this doesn't seem to be anything new.

When Chris Tarrant's show was extended to 6am & he was doing the show on Capital FM from 6am-10am he used to pre-record the first half hour, the problem is that it was rather noticable, whether or not this would happen with Moyles I don't know, but I imagine if the Beeb really have a problem with it they'd pull Chris into the office to have a word with him.

Are you taking the piss? Are you saying it is acceptable? He is paid to do a job and deliver to a certain standard which he has failed at. If I or you were late as often as he is we would be disciplined, why is he different?

Cos it's got nothing to do with me. If he worked beside me and I got a bollocking and he didn't, I would care more then, but he doesn't so I don't.

It's essentially the same as me getting pissed off at Topher if didn't get a bollocking because he was late for work. The fact Moyles is "on air" makes little difference to the situation.

What does this actually mean?

On a basic level it means some people are less lucky than others. I don't even believe in luck and consider myself to be an optimist but I have learned long ago that there are things in this world where if it can go wrong it WILL go wrong. Even my missus (who thought it was a load of tosh) has commented "why do these things only seem to happen to you?" so I'm not the only person who thinks this.

Deusional? Self re-inforcing belief? A load of old cobblers? It probably is but I know people with stranger beliefes than me.

Not really because his job involves the public as his fans and audience and he relies on them to keep him in work so they have a right to be annoyed or to care. If Jimmy Carr had stayed in bed and not bothered to go to his own show you would be annoyed and I wouldn't give a crap, I wouldn't say lets not care too much about it to a group of people that had planned on going.

He doesn't like guests being late to his own radio show and tells them it isn't right that they treat live radio differently to live TV but if his own TV show was going out live every week he wouldn't be half an hour late would he?

If Jimmy Carr hadn't turned up after I had paid for going to see him and travelled to the theatre then yes, I would be annoyed. That isn't the same as what we are talking about here though. And while Carr was meant to be on stage at 8pm, he didn't appear till at least 8:25.

I'm also not disputing whither people have a RIGHT to care. I'm just saying it's only a radio show - there's plenty of other shiz to be worried about, do folk really care THAT much to get wound up?

I agree with Cat and no she's not making me, I actually do think it's a bit hypocritical of him.

Oh yeah....

Sorry Foots, gotta disagree with you on this one.... Its nothing like Topher, or any other forum member, being late.

Still, I can never stay mad at you for long..... Don't do 'the eyes'....!

True enough. But you know, it would make a hell of a lot of difference to my irritation levels (can't speak for anyone else) if he would stop trying to make excuses (as someone else has said 5.30 really isn't all that early to have to get up five days a week). Its the refusal to accept responsibility that annoys me more than the ruined link!
