I think that they will wait til Chris is back as it usually him that breaks the news of where the BW is going to be.

If it's in Carlisle it'll be the third time in North West England in 8 years and Bangor's not exactly miles away either. Meanwhile Yorkshire, East Midlands and East Anglia have been very much left out. Almost certain to go back to Scotland next year as well I'd say...

Radio 1 Schedule for Sat 26/03/11:

01:00 - Tiesto
Ahead of Wednesday's announcement of the venue for Radio 1's Big Weekend in 2011, we head back to Bangor, North Wales in 2010, for Tiesto's set from the Outdoor Stage.

So I guess Scott Mills will be making the announcement on Wed 30/03/11.

I expect the dates and schedules for announcements/press releases etc have been planned for a while now and just happens that Chris happens to be off that week

Edit to say - fixed wing flights have been prohibited at the airport for the weekend 14th/15th May - the airport website did say this was due to a Radio 1 event being held but this was later edited.

Originally said: ""Subject to confirmation Radio 1 is coming to the airport on the weekend of 14th/15th May. The size of this event is almost certain to preclude fixed wing operations from the airport. While this is still to be confirmed, we will not be taking bookings for those days or the 13th & 16th of May."

Other rumours from the area include

BBC staff have block booked rooms at a number of Carlisle Hotels.

The Dance acts are likely to be on at Carlisle Racecourse.

The site of Penrith Calling was also in contention.

Scott Mills will broadcast from Carlisle on Wednesday with one of the acts.

Kings of Leon to headline one of the days.
