Radio 1 hated that. I'm guessing there will be no @GrimmyShow or @R1Breakfast, it'll be all @Radio1 #Radio1 #It'sAllAboutTheMusic #WhyDoWeEvenNeedDJsAnyway?

My other favourite radio host, Adam Carolla, had his all-talk Breakfast Show cancelled and replaced with a breakfast show hosted by robots. It has no speech and just plays Rihanna and Miley Cyrus.
I think that's the eventual goal for all music radio -- something to listen to in the car if you dropped your iPod down the loo.

@R1Breakfast does exist. If you go to Grimmy's front page by going through the schedule, the tabs are "Home", "Episodes" (weird name for shows?? - tied into the iPlayer system more-so), "Facebook" and "Twitter". Twitter goes to "R1Breakfast". It'll pile all the new listeners to there and for any presenter changes in future which is my guess. Shame!

If I wanted to listen to music in the morning, I would just plug my headphones into my phone and listen to what I want to listen to, not something a committee has decided I want to listen to.

I want to travel to work everyday listening to a bit of banter, some fun features and also with the added bonus that I don't know if I will spontaneously crack up with laughter whilst on the train (which has happened in the past).

However, I am nearly 40; so I don't fit into R1 demographic anymore.

I'm 25, how do you think I feel? :( Lost.

I get the joke, but that pic with Cheryl seems like R1 are a dig at Moyles.

The thing is, the reason people listened to him was for the lack of music. I don't want to listen to generic, crappy noise when I wake up. I want to hear what the team have been up to, Golden Hour, Catchphrase etc.

That's what I'm really gutted about losing. Instead of having people who as Corden said, were a group of friends who always included you. You have a guy (in this instance Le Grim) chatting about some mundane crap and playing the "latest and greatest" tunes and beats.

SIGH.

There ar no commercial breakfast shows that plays lots of music, Evans doesnt, local guff that I listen to when Chris was away doesnt - theyre all about promotions, chatting and adds.
My alarm went off at 7 today and I didnt need to be up for a half an hour - local station played 3 songs (sounds familiar) but each song was pre-empted by 3 mins of adds and mindless scripted drivel.
I'm not radio 1 demographic (just) but 10 years ago I still didnt want to listen to house, dance or dub at 6.30am!
Funny how the publicity hungry turncoats (Sheryl) who pretended to be Chris' friend will now do what ever Radio 1 ask them - I dont think they will get the big hitters like Chris Martin, Barlow etc who genuinely seem pally.

This #TeamGrimmy stuff irritates me no end. I don't quite get the point of it in the first place. Why does he need a 'team'? The only team in the mornings that was any good was TCMS ;)

It seems like a bit of a hidden un-spoken message of 'Team Grimmy vs Team Moyles'.

Nearly all radio stations boast a slogan which is a variation on 'More music, less talk'. Apparently that's what makes them money. I understand the business logic there. But Radio 1 should be different. An option for those who'd prefer talking over music, or who would like a fair mix of both.

I also think it's weird that you could want to be a radio DJ your whole life, finally get to a national station, and then just play songs the entire time. Especially when there's a pre-determined playlist dictated to you. You might as well just be replaced by a robot, which I see is actually happening.

At the end of Early Breakfast today, Dev showed signs of irritation at the playlist too - his comment was along the lines of "I'll be back tomorrow with the same songs just in a different order". I smiled...

Blimey - he's gone up in my estimation!

I'm sure when BBC Radio was doing a Comic Relief stand up challenge, his opening line was something like:

"I'm Dev from Radio 1, so I'll be telling you jokes you've heard a hundred times and repeating them later on in a slightly different order"

I must admit, Dev has improved immensely since he first started on Early Breakfast - I'm still not a fan of his voice, but even that has improved.

When I saw Dev on the live feed on the last show, could see he was properly gutted about Chris' departure. His voice isn't perfect, but I think I underestimated him a lot in his early days. Especially now we've had the god awful such as Matt Edmonson and various other CBBC sounding presenters.

I have a horrible feeling there could be some divide in opinion being hidden within the Radio 1 camps about Grimmy getting the nod to head the show as well. It's all been a bit sudden/sharp when there's no ad's to promote the last CM podcasts that are available. The thing is I think Ben Cooper is playing a risky game almost turning Radio 1 into CBBC Radio 1. Things like the Radio 1 Request Show, Matt Edmonson, cutting back R1 Surgery, R1 Documentaries etc.

With CM gone, R1 will feel they've chopped off the 25+ audience but in reality, I think it'll be deeper than that. It was more than just 25-40 year olds that liked the CM show, also their children who grew up listening to them with their parents in the car to school/college/work.

I've not heard Adam Catterall recently, he did some cover shows for Dev and was very, very good. They should sign him up on a regular show.

Bit unusual when Ben was deputy of Parfitt surely? I know new bosses have to stamp their authority at some point, but to do it against CM at its peak has been risky business. If I was Ben, I'd rather let Scott/Chris go at the same time during 2013/2014 where they come from the same era and would of made the reshuffle much easier (rather than doing the arkward Greg/Scott switch early on).

The BBC Trust is a law by itself unfortunately. I'd like to know where this research of the older presenters damaging the stations R1 "youth" status came from.

I'd argue as to whether the show was at it's peak.

The BBC trust needs to ensure that the funding the BBC is getting is being used in it's entirety for the intended purpose. In showing that it's audience is made up of a large proportion of over 25 year olds - it technically showed that the funding wasn't being used expressly for appealing to 15-25 year olds, which the new format will.

There's some interesting reading if you've got some spare time in the BBC Trust's "Younger Audience Review" of 2009. I've attached the Radio 1 stuff to this post.

I have only skimmed that report, however I think it is interesting that around page 12 it reports about the speech/music ratio, and how that it is important to have a high speech content, as long as it is in context etc. I think it is also interesting that the remit doesn't specifically exclude us older types.

To be honest, I don't think we will get behind the real truth as to what has happened, and what the meeting between Ben Cooper and Chris discussed. Maybe they wasn't willing to allow him to do JCS, maybe some of the team wanted to break up and Chris found it hard to work a solution to continue without those members, maybe it is all the reasons stated on all these boards, but there are only a few people that know, and I would think no one else will until there is an autobiography published.......

However, one thing is for certain; that bloody tv advert for the new show gets right on my wick!!

Dev has developed into a very good presenter I think. I also like that Welsh blokey, Huw thingy.

I'm a big fan of Huw. I saw him going into Radio 1 on Friday morning, no one called his name out or anything, if I'd realised it was him I would have asked him what happened to Lyrical Hodgepodge. Ah well.

Agreed on Dev.
RE Huw Stephens - it's funny, he's extremely cheesy which usually makes me detest a presenter, but somehow he can do it and I don't mind. I quite like him despite his quirkiness. I guess that's a good example of charisma in action.
