It'd be interesting if he just took the attitude of "F*ck you, I'm doing what I want" and started actively pissing them off, as I've found myself wanting him to do. Would Ben Cooper dare sack him?

I try every morning and some days i stay with radio 1 for 10 -20 minutes, I've noticed that Nick seems more comfortable these days. Even so i still have issues with a national radio station focusing its attention towards a specific age group rather than carving itself a massive following via music choice and appropriate presentation.

Extreme example is Westwood. Capital RAP show lifted more or less wholesale from Capital radio, to radio one
the music attracted the audience and the presenter fitted in to the mix perfectly. love him or hate him, he does a very good job of filling in the gaps in a way that fits in with much of the content of the play list.
and as a specialist/niche show it was on at an appropriate time

breakfast isn't niche, breaskfast isn't specialist, it should have universal appeal, it should be everyman presenter with everyman music in line with the stations identity. In this case, new music and chart music, recent past, and present.
what have we got a niche show for 14 year olds focusing on 1 direction and pathetic features.

it is the "Chuff" Chris warned us about via the power of the parody...

We all complained about corporate plugs and promos when Chris did them too - Brits, Teen Awards, Big bloody Weekend, Superstar DJs, etc etc.

Not quite the same as Radio 1 Direction / Radio Simon Cowell / Radio encourage young listeners to phone in and vote on commercial enterprises.

As for the corporate plugs, if they're treated like Zane coming in to talk about the album he's playing, or a wide variety of bands coming in to play their new record, then it's to be expected - and the Big Weekend things took me back to the Radio 1 Roadshows, though the incessant repetition of the BW acts, shows and interviews is wearing, like the constant 'stadio identification' jingles.

This is chuff,
Just put your hands up if you've had enough.
We know it's tricky and it can be tough,
For you to listen to this Grimshaw guff.
Just tell us and we'll gladly turn it off.

This is chuff,
How did this happen to our Radio 1?
It's just a steaming pile of musical dung.
And only One Direction seem to be on,
Just hope they disappear before too long.

Aaare Yooou Stupid... etc...

Ahh now that puts Sara Cox's first link after the final CMS into perspective. She's the last of a golden era on that station.

She played this is chuff right at the end of the final pips, having posted what you did, I thought that made sense.

By 'this is chuff' I mean 'Now you're gone'

I'm glad it was Coxy and not Fearne who Chris handed over to at the end of his final Breakfast show - apart from the obvious reasons, it was a nice twist considering he'd taken over the show from her in the first place.
Apologies if I'm repeating comments others have already made, but just thought I'd get that in there anyway.

Very well-said, Dave. And I bet there aren't many 14-yr-olds who need a radio show to get them out of bed at 6:30am, get their first cup of coffee, then stagger to their car to drive the monotonous, traffic-filled commute to work, needing giggles and good music to start their often-horrible day.

THAT'S what breakfast shows are all about and what they're there to do.

I've given it some consideration since the 'disloyalty' debate and I really think that listening to Grimmy has been part of the healing process for me (yes, I know that makes it sound far more serious than it is, but still). Accepting that there was a new show with a new host has helped me move on in my mind. I think if I'd switched stations or just listened to no radio at all I would still be kind of pretending Chris was just on holiday or something, and that's not healthy. I maintain that Grimmy is not Chris and never can be, but I needed to try to embrace the change or I'd just be mourning TCMS forever.

No...it's just like a Golden Hour without the tedious year constraints. They played late 70s Michael Jackson the other week!

I enjoyed the Nickstape both times I heard it (and would have liked last Friday's too, by the looks of it). So what if some of the songs are from within the last ten years - they're still ones that you haven't heard on R1 recently and I think many are well chosen. And besides, as Nic said above, there have been some much older anyway.

Overall I'd say it's better than the (many) times Chris would get amnesia and play something that he'd already played on the GH a few times already, as much as I enjoyed it anyway. Mind you, we don't know the Nickstape won't end up doing the same thing... I do also hope that someone in the future will bring the Golden Hour back as I appreciated its revival and I do miss it.

Also, the Wheel of 4 Tunes usually gives us one classic song per day (?), and Nick did also play 'Live and Let Die' in full this morning after the Bond competition announcement!

I agree. I think the new show deliberately amped up the teen thing in its first couple of weeks to shake the oldies off (appropriately times with the build-up to the Teen Awards as well), but now that the awards are over it seems to be settling down and already more inclusive.

I'm not saying it isn't generally more youth-oriented - it certainly is - but I don't see any difference in terms of the music that gets played in comparison to TCMS other than how much of it there is. That and the fact that Chris (albeit still constrained by the playlist etc) would occasionally rebel, such as not playing Chris Brown. Damn, I hate hearing Chris Brown in the mornings now.

Also, I generally like the R1 playlist. I can't imagine how anyone who dislikes the majority of it would be able to continue listening.

Ahhhh, so it's not actually a beatmatched computermix?

Hang on, I thought playing music more than 5 years old would mean the collapse of Western civilisation and an end to the BBC...

Was I misinformed?

I'd listen to the talking and shower/dress/switch over when music I didn't like came on. Unless you mean you can't imagine how people listened to music they don't like?
