Oh i don't know. How can the line "It smells like Bigfoot's dick!" not be funny in any context?

I finally got round to watching Anchorman the other week after meaning to for years after hearing the show reference it for ages and ages. And I was so disappointed. It just wasn't funny. Maybe it's an age thing - if I'd watched it the same day as seeing Dumb and Dumber for the first time (which I love), I'd probably have been all over it. But these days, just wasn't having it, I'm afraid.

I'd have to disagree. I've seen the film countless times, and even just reading those lines made me laugh.

This is not an over-reaction.

See the thing is, I saw it late after everyone had said it was the funniest film ever made, etc, etc. It wasn't as funny as they made out by quite a stretch. It was amusing in places, but I have seen far funnier.

And thats as fact!

Really? REALLY?! Better than any of The Godfather, Star Wars, Usual Suspects, Shawshank, Casablanca, The Shining, Psycho... I could go on.

I would even go so far as to say it's not the best comedy film - Airplane is FAR funnier.

But that's precisely cos you know the context, and can picture them being said by the characters. If you imagine you've never seen it, they don't make much sense. "Your hair looks stupid" - so? That will only be funny to you if you know the character of Ron Burgundy.

I like the film but I have seen comedies before and since then that I've enjoyed more so I wouldn't deem it as the pinnacle of comedies over the last decade etc like some people on here and on twitter have.

Oh and Topher is correct, Airplane is funnier than Anchorman in my eyes and that film is 32 years old.

No, it's not. Maybe we need a separate 'favourite films of all time' thread - in fact we must have already done that at some point in the past.

You've seen every film series ever made then, have you Ben?

...actually, the amount you're sat in front of a telly, you probably have. Although most of the time it is spent watching shit. Ergo, your opinion on films and TV is probably the last one I will take any notice of.

Hey now, being a student doesn't mean that you're stuck watching what you watch!

I indulged in LOST, Prison Break, Desperate Housewives, Star Wars (all of them), The Godfather Series, Frasier, Python, Kevin Smith films, Hitchcock, lots of Sci-Fi and much more.

There would never have been any legitimate excuse for Geordie Shore in there.
