Listen to the shows he did for Greg James when he was off sick earlier this year (they are in the archive). He did a great job and showed he is as good with a team as he is on his own.

if it is anything like when chris covered for greg. the show will be fine. Chris proved in them shows he can work on his own for 2/3/4 hours on his own with a producer. (if he uses aled. they will easily bounce off each other and blend together as scott mills does with becky)

I think Chris is great on his own, but a lot of that 'The Chris Moyles Show' humour is down to Dave. He would be missed (directly or indirectly) but I think Chris is more than capable to go on alone/without Dave.

stevepro wrote:If the rumours are true and Dave has left the BBC, how would people feel about a Chris Moyles show without Dave? Would it work? At the start it took me a while (a long while!) to like/'get' Dave, but i eventually did and now i can't really imagine the show without him.

I recently read Dave's book and he said Chris, like all other DJs, was freelance and never employed by the BBC. He just signed a contract to present the show. Dave was at the time a broadcast assistant working behind the scenes and was indeed a BBC employee, and he said he had a difficult time persuading the BBC to let him go freelance. Therefore, Dave can't really have left the BBC as he was not employed by the BBC. I'm sure if Chris moved to a new time and wanted Dave with him then he'd get his way.

Chris was great covering for Greg back in March (and dedicated too - 6.30-10.00 shift and then 1.00-4.00!) but he did bring in producers Laura and the other one whose name escapes me a lot. He's so used to the 'zoo' format.

I think we will see Chris back in the New Year. Whether it be late nights or weekends. I think weekends seems the more likely option. I don't think it will be long term, just to work out the remainder of his contract.

I think the reason we don't know what is happening is for 2 reasons.

The team wanted the CMS to go out with a bang. It did. If we all knew for sure that Chris would be back in a few months then the last few weeks would have lost impact.

Radio 1 NEED the new breakfast show to work. Having Chris Moyles hanging around immediately after would steal limelight from
Nick. Give Chris a few months off and let Nick bed in.

Today's show was the end of the Chris Moyles Show forever. But it didn't feel like the end of Chris at R1.

I suppose 'left the BBC' is a misnomer but rather than pick at language we can use it to mean 'decided not to work for them any longer'. Regardless of Dave's freelance working, for him to reappear on any BBC production would still mean a job would need to exist and he would need to want it, apply and be accepted. I appreciate the process wouldn't be quite the same as when us normos apply for a job, but that's still the essence of the situation.

Anything between 7pm and 4am is classed as specialist. And do not need to conform to playlists.

Moyles signed a new deal until January 2014 last year, so unless the BBC plan to move him to another station then he'll be back on Radio 1. I've worked with embargoed stories in a newsroom and it's easy enough for people to trip over what you can and can't mention. It is extremely unlikely that the sentence in question was removed because it was a mistake.

Remember a few weeks ago when Dom was playing Chris's guitar and they were doing Q&A a la the One Direction guy? Well, here's the bit that caught my ear when I heard it then.

Listen carefully to what Chris and Aled say after Dom answers the question. "Later" could easily refer to the late-night show, and this bit would obviously get great ratings. (And notice, Dom agrees. I think he will be there, too, to some degree, perhaps as an occasional guest ... as any of them could be.)

That 10pm-12am time slot is perfect for Chris. He could play music he loves, and have lots more choices on special guests, especially movie and TV folks. I really think that's why he's been so happy lately. He has something very cool to look forward to, and bring all us 'friends' he loves so well along with him.

Sorry, I was hoping it would embed, in the way the vid did above. Did I do something wrong? Sorry!

Anyway, during the guitar Q&A, Aled makes a side comment to Chris, saying, "We could have millions watching this." To which Chris replies, "I think we should do this later." Aled agrees, as does Dom.

The 10-12 slot would also allow them to use the Red Button often.

Case closed. ^_^

The above makes no sense to me.

I've just been reading The Independent's review, which says that

'Despite being offered a late-night Radio 1 show, this goodbye, when he eventually hung up his mic in scenes broadcast live on the BBC News Channel, appears final. Moyles hinted that he might even leave Britain and "do something else in another land".

I'm surprised that more people haven't flagged up the BIB. I must say it really stood out for me in what Chris said during his final goodbyes. I'm not sure why, but there was just something about the way he said it, it seemed to be very deliberate and an unnecessary thing to say unless a member of the team was indeed departing for 'another land'.

Personally speaking I'm not overly fussed about what he does now, as I wouldn't have a great interest in listening to a show without the team anyway.

Okay, sorry for the bother earlier. I wasn't sure how an audio file would work here (being a newbie), so that didn't work out. So, I did a little youtube vid with the audio clip attached.

Anyway, this is the bit I heard on 7 August that, at the time, sounded like a hint as to what was in Chris's future. It happens after Dom answers the question.

To me, it sounds like something escaped Aled's mouth, and Chris (and Dom) went with it.

"Watching" sounds like Red Button. "Later" sounds like a late show.

Any thoughts?

I reckon we should just see what happens. Give them all a break and wait and see. The team have all been part of the biggest show on the station for the last 8 and a half years, getting up early every morning and having to go through the emotions of the last 2 months. I'd love the guys from the show to do their own show together but I'm not holding my breath.

Agree with Deadly's last sentence! Will be looking forward to 2013 with interest to see a new chapter of the Chris Moyles radio career!

We'd all love that, seeing the team back together again but yeah I doubt it'll happen (and Aled tweeted the team won't be coming back) and I know whatever Chris does next in his radio career won't be the same format of having a massive team of friends with him as well, but I really really hope that he at least has his old pal Dave along side him, not saying Chris wouldn't be great on his own, but I love hearing those two together and it wouldn't be the same if Dave wasn't there. Bring on January :D
