The place where everyone hangs out, chats, gossips, and argues

All they've said is that they have 2 weeks off after this week and then they come back on the Tuesday for their last 14 shows. The final show is in the studio on September 14th and they're having a leaving party on September 13th where there will be a couple of hundred tickets available. And details of how to get them via some sort of competition will be revealed when they're back off their holidays.

The countdown on the main page (which everyone obviously ignores) has been counting down to this date for the past week. I did try to give you the clues ...

I didn't know that!

Day booked off.

I've been listening to the show every morning before work, they started around the same time I started my job, and my routine in a morning was made bearable by the Chris Moyles show.

Oh yeah. I actually read that as well...

I really hope people from outside the UK are able to enter the competition. I would like to be there. But anyway, I think I'm going to book a short trip to the UK for this week :D

I definitely think it's a good decision to have the leaving party on the Thursday. I usually have a week off in september, so have chosen this week. Will be able to enjoy the whole week now.

I agree.

Get all the party stuff out of the way and finish with a normal format show (or as near normal given the circumstances)

Suddenly it all seems very final and very real :(

Thank god they decided to do it this way - it's perfect. I would always hate when long-running shows ended in a way that was too extraordinary and celebratory (especially if lots of guests were involved), as not only did it seem less appropriate not to end with the usual format, but also felt impersonal.

I hope they go all-out for the party show and then make the final show something much more familiar (and therefore special) for the listeners, but also special for themselves as well.

Well, that sucks. So there is only 3 weeks of the show left, which is bad enough, yet for me there is just under 2 as I'm off on holiday on Sept 6th. Take into the account the bank holiday too, and I only have about 8 shows left - that is really, really depressing. :(

Also, whats with all this crap they've added to the show? Ie Roy Walker time and that 'What are you doing during the show?' "feature" - are they trying to make it crap on purpose?

Forgot to say, I'm so pleased last show 'party' is on the Thursday, increases my chances of being able to make it. Fingers crossed.

So the last show is on Friday 14th, but whats going on, on the 13th? This party, is it a night time party, or a 'show' party? If it is a 'show' party, I would have just liked to see them bombared it with brilliant guests/friends of the show, Alan Carr and Davina etc.

It's a show party. The clip of the announcement is in the vault if you didn't hear it.

There are about 200 tickets available. I think just about every listener to the show is unlikely to get a ticket. I think the majority of us on here would love to be there, but the chances are infinitesimally small.

Whatever the criteria for tickets I'll give it a go, but I don't hold out much hope.

I've not listened live to the show for years due to the wonders of modern technology. The day of the announcement, I was in work and started receiving texts from my mates saying things like "I hope you're ok x", "gutted for ya mate" and "have you got you're black armband on yet?". Needless to say, I had no idea what they were talking about and genuinely thought Wogan had snuffed it (did a google search an everything!). Thankfully, the truth was no-where near as terrifying.

Moyles has been a part of my daily life for well over a decade and it will be strange not having his chat on the commute to work. However, as I think Yuds mentioned various pages ago in this thread, we need to put things in perspective. It's all part of the natural progression of things and I look forward to whatever the Next Generation of Moyles brings us. My main concern is that the Breakfast Show is my only source of youth culture - where am I gonna find out about the latest things da kidz r tlkng about?? I worry I'm suddenly about to get much older.

I've read this whole thread and I award this the funniest post. Well done.

I definitely take comfort from how he said "Friday 14th will the last Chris Moyles show, as it is, in the morning" - that confirms they'll (or he'll) be back.

Not having the show on in the morning will still never be the same, but coming back at a different time is better than nothing - but will it work if say Chris does it on its own?

Is a stark preview into how we will wake up from now on...

I have listened to Chris forever, and certainly all the breakfast show... Due to starting work at 8:30, I listen everyday day from around 6:45.

This morning with Vernon was about the blandest I've known the radio1 breakfast show to be; who on earth wants constant music at that time in the morning? And why only 1 person? I hate the term, zoo format, it's just a lazy form of journalism and a term that is used as they cannot be arsed to portray the intricacies of such a team.

I heard an apparently bored Vernon talk over some bland backing track and then segway into 3/4 tunes. I felt no involvement in the show and missed all the jingles that we have grown to love.

I didn't want to get so down about missing my favourite part of my morning routine but today has just hammered it home exactly what the future will sound like - and I don't like it. Chris is just too good!

I understand Radio 1's philosophy but am just gutted as it leaves us (i'm 29) with no alternative... I flicked to Free Radio and Capital but it is just awful.

Whatever the new format is, it needs more than 1 person - it just does, we need banter, audience engagement... It's also been confirmed that the new jingle package will contain no sung jingles just a theme.

So heres to a bland and boring future which will in turn follow the rest of radio 1's recent output; middle of the road, dumbed down garbage...

Groundbreaking?? Not any more!
