Without a doubt. I love the opening link right at the beginning of the show and the nuttiness of Car Park Catchphrase right at the end of the show.

It's a shame many people don't get to hear either, as they are not in "peak time", but then if they were, they would probably get squeezed by all the other stuff that has to go in to the show.

"Radio 1 DJ Chris Moyles had suffered a 'rough morning' and is always someone who 'speaks his mind', says Tim Davie

'Chris is always going to be someone who speaks his mind. His listeners know that,' said Tim Davie.

The BBC head of network radio, Tim Davie, has come to the defence of Radio 1 DJ Chris Moyles after his 30-minute on-air rant, saying he had suffered a "rough morning" and has always been someone who "speaks his mind".

Davie, the BBC's head of audio and music, said he wanted to give Moyles space to express himself and did not regard the broadcast as a breach of editorial standards.

"I don't think it was utterly inappropriate," Davie told the Guardian's Media Talk podcast. "I think at the end of the day, Chris is always going to be someone who speaks his mind. His listeners know that. It was a lively broadcast, he said he had a pretty rough morning, but that's what listeners expect from Moyles.

"There's a huge difference between deep editorial issues that are causing offence to the audience and whether a DJ like Chris is talking about, or frankly ranting about, something for a while. People like myself are very clear that we want to give DJs space to do their thing, that's what we do. It's different to whether there's a breach of editorial standards, where we've got to be very tough."

However, the BBC Vision director, Jana Bennett, admitted the broadcast was "pretty unusual". She said it was a "wrong side of the bed type day" for the DJ.

"Obviously it was very heartfelt," Bennett told Victoria Derbyshire on BBC Radio 5 Live yesterday .

"He's obviously a human being, it probably was a really bad hair day and if he wasn't paid I would hope it would be something he would talk to his bosses about. I would absolutely hope the situation is rectified. He obviously let it all out in a way that was pretty unusual."

Separately, Davie said he was "happy with the current arrangements" for BBC Radio 5 Live controller Adrian Van Klaveren not to move to the north-west full-time when his station moves to Salford next year. "The primary question is can someone do the job and run the station," he said"

This piece makes Elizabeth Mahoney look like Chris' friendly aunty.

http://www.dailymail.co.uk/debate/artic ... mouth.html

He goes back about ten years listing all of Chris' 'lapses of judgement'. Just one excerpt reads 'But, when it comes to women, he’s just a creep. When there’s a female guest star on his show you can almost hear him drooling and his numbskull questions are larded with cack-handed and utterly charmless double entendres'.

On the plus side, Aled has managed to get himself into (the online version at least) a national newspaper. You can see him just behind Chris in in the pap shot they've used. Fame at last.

Let's face it.

Whether he was tongue in cheek or not he is without a shadow of a doubt the biggest (sorry, largest) cretin in the history of radio.

I used to listen to his shows but after years of listening to the crap that falls from his mouth, the vile celebrity creeping and 'biggin up', not to mention all the sycophants that surround him on the show and whose heads are so far up his arse, frankly he deserves everything he gets.

Is he really remotely interested in charity and raising funds for legitimate UK charities - of course not. The big plus for this fat idiot was simply getting his over sized face on TV to spread the 'Moyles' publicity machine even more than normal.

I wouldn't wish this on any one but he needs to come down a peg or two. He is over paid, under talented and over welcomed. With any luck he will be back on local Northern radio soon.

This is such a non story. There are two points worth mentioning here.
1. Chris rants about all sorts of stuff frequently
2. The media/papers are just using this as a stick to beat him with, whilst also genuinely not "getting" Moyles and what he is about and what he says.

When Chris said what he said, I barely gave it much thought, as it is pretty much the norm for him, maybe with a bit extra effect due to his private situation etc. But the media is just milking this for all its worth. And people who dont listen to the show who are reading this bullshit coverage are thinking he is a total nutcase who is on the verge of flipping.

Total and utter crap.

Agree with you on all points, it is indeed just "material" for the press to feed on, and they've had a field-day. The fact that they made such a mountain out of a molehill about the 30 mins "rant" about pay/milk/etc, shows that the press never really listen in on a regular basis. Unless of course they get wind of a possible "story" to cover and listen again or steal the details from another crummy paper/site.

It's a good link posted by neilt0 - the article by Lowri Turner shows that she understands and get's what it's about, and what I believe the regular fan's who listen know already.

When you have any form of pay dispute with your employers you take it up with them at an agreed time and in private.

He said that they hadn't bothered to pay him nor even show the courtesy of informing him why.

If I hadn't been paid for a single month, let alone two, I would've been on the phone immediately to resolve matters which is a far cry from what the turd has actually done. His actions are both unprofessional and immature by ranting his issues on national radio.

Who actually gives a stuff whether he has, or hasn't been paid? He is paid by us to perform (like the Monkey he is) which he should oblige and honour.

I take on board the comments surrounding his personal life and agree that this hasn't helped and may have been the incendiary for the rant but he needs to keep his work & social lives separate.

If you had listened to the show, you would know that he said that he had taken up the issue with management and was always told "it'll be fixed on Monday . . . it'll be fixed on Tuesday" and so on. The rant was him at breaking point about it all i think.

He has spoken to the people involved (He listed the names if I remember correctly) and they all said to him "not to worry" which was making him so fed up.

I've huge love the Chris & the team as they do a wonderful job every single weekday without fail. He had every right to discuss this issue with us, the audience as he discuss' 98% of the rest of his life with us. Thats what makes it an amazing radio show.

The curry and pay rants were good, but I think were forgetting the brilliant on air rant the week after one big weekend in Bangor. Chris was outraged at cm.net for criticisim here after he started the show late...despite sleeping in the same house as where the studio was. I think Travis Bickle got a very special mention and the first song diden't get played until just before 7.20 which must be a record! :D Did that one ever actually make into the sound vault becuase from what I remember it was some of the funniest radio I've heard.

Not so funny if you're Travis or me...! He read out my post as well. I have a copy of the rant if it's not in the archive.

The bus rant would have to be in the top 5 somewhere too. Even when most of it went in the sound vault I remember it carrying on after the news too, those were the days before 6:30 starts so the rant happened after 9.

Can't seem to find it in the archive unless I'm looking in the wrong place. The beauty of that rant was he started out as if he was going to leave the show because of it but by the end of the rant he seemed to see the funny side of it all.

He's not an employee. He's a limited company with an enforceable agreement with another, much larger company which has apparently defaulted on their contracted. Given that he had been promised resolution for two months, yet when it was mentioned on air it was sorted within 24 hours, I would say that even thought that was unlikely to have been his intention, mentioning it on air was the right thing to do.

There's quite a lot of speculation and "a close friend of Chris tells us" bullshit in that article.

A small editorial piece by Simon Hoggart, from today's Guardian:

Apparently Chris Moyles, the Radio 1 disc-jockey, devoted half an hour of his programme on Wednesday to a rant about how he had not been paid by the BBC since July. (Which is actually only a few weeks late, and I assume he's got enough put by to live on.)

To most people it will come as a surprise that he's paid at all. It's as if your local pub had a really bad karaoke singer who then went round demanding a fee for listening to him. Frankly, if I were Moyles's line manager, and came across such unprofessional behaviour, I would sack him straight away. But the BBC is in thrall to yoof, or to what it imagine yoof wants to hear, so they won't dream of it.

I love the fact that he thinks a) it's okay cos Chris must have enough to live on and b) that a 36 yr old DJ can be classed as 'yoof'. :)

I have the clip on my phone and I can only listen up to the bit where he says "and here it is, from Travis Bickle..."

I have listened a few times but always turn it off at that point. It just makes me cringe  I may be sad, but I want to enjoy the fact he mentioned me on air like that, but its not happening at the moment. One day, maybe.

Ah go on its well worth a play, if it was me I think I'd be flattered that some of my ramblings made it on to arguably the worlds best radio show. :D As i mentioned earlier by the end of the clip Chris seemed to see the irony of it all.
