i read somewhere that he was doing it in front of a selection of invited guests and not an audience. but if it is open to the public does anyone know where to get tickets?

When C5 launch their site it will have details on how you can get involved with the show (and I assume, get invited).

Should be launched prior to the show.

if its ginger tv company peoples then i reckon getting on a mailing list of theirs or something similar might put you in with a chance. a mate is on avalon's e-mailing list and we got a load of free tickets to go to "this morning with richard not judy" ages ago - class.
