America's satellite radio company Sirius XM is preparing for a possible bankruptcy filing, the New York Times has reported.

The newspaper reports the move could put pressure on the satellite company EchoStar, which owns a substantial amount of the company’s debt.

It comes after the Wall Street Journal reported that satellite television mogul Charles Ergen made an offer to take control of Sirius XM

Funnily enough Moyles was shocked to find out the news on Twitter. Someone I presume asked him how he could listen in the States in New York and Moyles said on Sirius and how it was Time Shifted. Then I presume the guy said it wasn't on today to which Moyles replied something like "That's odd I'll look into it tomorrow"

Guess we know now then.

Bloody hell, shame really as the team were picking up quite a fanbase over there, I take it iPlayer is encoded not to play in the US at present?

Almost - I read the conversation. The guy asked the best way to listen and Moyles said on Sirius it's time-shifted, so it's quite clever because the time checks are correct and the guy then told him that Sirius has gone into administration.

Ha. I'll check Mr. Sunny's car when he comes home. I wanted it when I got my car in September, but as I told Moyles, they wanted $900 more to have it installed in there! Screw that. I can listen online.........

I think the interesting thing will be with Howard Stern. He is on around $500 million (for 5 years) and is pretty much the face of sirius.

I wish I could listen/record Stern's full show in the UK but cant a way to do it :(

NOOOOO!!!!!!!

Florida radio sucks! Even the other channels of Sirius are better than Florida radio. I quite liked flicking between the 60s, 70s and 80s channels, there was The Hits or something like that, and of course my daily holiday fix of the Chris Moyles show.

Well you weren't going to use it in NYC, Munki, so you'll be fine for a while.

Howard Stern is nasty.

I'm glad I'm not the only person who doesn't like Howard Stern. I recognise his importance in broadcasting terms, but i really can't listen to him.

You can subscribe to Sirius' internet service (you have to call them for an international registration) there are also pirate streams floating around for Howard 101 and other ways of 'acquiring' shows...nudge nudge wink wink say no more.

The best thing I've heard from Howard on Sirius was actually the 'History of Howard Stern' that they've run over the last 2 Christmas' especially the WNBC stuff. One other thing on Sirius some people may like is Scott Ferrall's sports show although he does talk at 100mph! Can't stand Bubba the Love Sponge though!

Not necessarily suprised Sirius XM are on their arse the merger took forever to be approved by the FCC (much to Howard's chagrin) and the investment for both of them was massive both in infrastructure and content (sports rights and of course Howard).

Sinless Links is really good BTW - well worth buying a rapidshare account if you want to do any serious downloading from it.

Thanks! Just downloading stuff now but so far looks good!

Yeah, as long as they sort something by September! NYC I'll be too busy taking taxis or walking to worry about it.

Just listening to his latest show. I can see how Chris is really influenced by him - but wow, Stern gets away with so much more. He makes Chris look like a saint!

Not sure I'd be able to listen every day - it's over 4 hours of talking without the music!

Yeah, that's one problem I'm slightly having with it, although I do edit out the music from the shows it does cut down the run time by quite a bit but with Stern it's nearly four hours, without music 8O

That guy was me!

What I was really asking him was if he thought it would be more fun / a better listening experience to listen to the show as it was aired live (which is 1:30 am to 5am in NY), or if it would pack the same punch listening to it on the Sirius Time shift. I was totally being ironic and funny, but I guess he didn't get it.

Anyway, yeah, so I let him know Sirius was filing for bankruptcy (which so far they havent), and he said he's look into it.

I was hoping he'd discuss it on the show... oh well.

It goes without saying that torrents are usually helpful, but for a monthly fee you can get a goldmine of stuff from Usenet.

The History of Howard Stern was just a masterpiece of broadcasting. It's what I wanted The Best of Chris Moyles to be, but it wasn't even close. The weekly show does have some good content though. Any time George Takei is in for a week of announcing, for instance. And the first two weeks of broadcasting on Sirius in 2006, when they did the Revelations Game and revealed that Robin used to get herself off with meat and vegetables. But the old stuff is legendary as I'll get to in a moment.

I'm also the opposite of you when it comes to your two recommendations - can't stand Ferrall and his voice, yet love Bubba when he's not talking politics. They've had some outstanding moments on their show, and the Manson/Ned gimmick is just awesome and downright convincing.

If I can recommend more radio, now that it's Sirius-XM, Opie & Anthony are still around and are usually good for a couple of listens. I also heartily recommend Ron & Fez on the same channel (The ViRUS).

Everyone on Sirius gets away with anything - it's an FCC-rid platform which is why Stern took it (amongst the other reason: money). The best stuff to get of Stern is his old stuff back when he was on normal radio. If you think he's rude now, he was at his peak around the mid-late 80s and it's more telling to hear what he did when the censors and station management were against him. This is the guy who would taunt his station manager (Pig Virus), take a cell phone out to Rosie O'Donnell's studio to try and provoke a confrontation, make one of his interns go out and buy gay porn at a local newsstand, and constantly make lesbians strip in the studio. There's also the legendary speaker orgasm...
