The place where everyone hangs out, chats, gossips, and argues

Listening to all the different shows on Radio 1, it got me thinking about the role of the producers. Some shows like the Moyles Show, Mills Show, Colin Murray, they all have chatty producers who are a part of the show. However, other shows, like Whiley and Edith have seemingly mute producers.

Which do you prefer? I prefer the producers getting involved personally, as it gets a bit boring listening to one voice droning on with no other input! I found it hilarious when Coxy was covering for Whiley, it was obvious she likes to get her producers involved more, and she was chatting away to them and asking them questions! They kept a bit quiet though, I think Coxy was a bit of a shock compared to Whiley, who rarely talks to her producers on air :P

So...producers, vocal or mute? :)

I think it depends.

I like hearing the producers but I dont like the presenters going 'my producer XXXXX says...' and then goes on about it.

I like it on Chris' show how the producers are just team members. The same happens with Scotts show.

I agree, I think Will was the best example of this, he gelled so well with the team that most of the time you forgot he was the producer (I think even he forgot sometimes)

It's funny, where Rhys & Rachael will pull Chris up from time to time if he gets near the knuckle Will seemed to let it get right near the lien sometimes, even joining in with the more risque discussions & even adding bits to them.

I like Rachael & think she's improved vastly over time (becoming more relaxed and going with the flow than she seemed to be when she took over in the afternoons), but I still miss Will, I think he was just unique.

Dumb question, but who?

Now, now there young'un, you need some education:

http://chrismoyles.net/mw/teamothers.shtml

Scroll down, you see him playing a guitar, he was Producer of the afternoon show from June 1999 until October 2000 (where he was superseded by Will), he later returned as Executive producer in 2005 & left in either later 2006 or early 2007.

Search out for two show I edited (rather poorly compared to my latter efforts) in the sound vault dated 4th January 2000 & 14th February 2000 to get an idea what he was like on air.

Ahhh, got it. I look at that page before when you mentioned the name but gave up halfway through as I thought his entry in it would have been more recent as you mentioned him alongside Rach.

Is Rachel the only person, producer/behind the scenes people, that was originally there and is still there, Doing the same role ?....I know Aled has also been there the same amount of time, but he has changed job position a few times (i think), etc.

:( I've just also been looking through Aleds profile on here and noticed alot of the audio links dont work anymore. Does anybody have these clips to hand:

* Aled invaded Capital FM
* Chris and Dave poured Pot Noodle down his back

(sorry i know this is the wrong place but dont want to make a whole new thread about it)

Regarding Aled's clips, if you search the sound archive they should work (some of the links on the main page no longer work for some reason)

Rachael was originally the Broadcast Assistant on the Saturday Show, she became Producer either near the end of that shows run or when she took over from Will in the afternoons (I can't fully remember which it was now)

I think it's simple for me.

If the show is full of playlist guff I want to hear the banter between the team.
If the show is trying to play new and interesting music I want the team to shut the hell up.

Colin and Zane are exceptions to the rule.

It definitely depends on the show and the presenter - not to mention the producer. Obviously Chris works well as a team and Rachel adds to the show like Dave, Dom, Carrie and Aled do, but then there are shows where it wouldn't sound good.

I agree (twice in one year already!)

Most entertainment radio breakfast shows are now "Zoo Format" but at other times of the main day it can sound irritating. I've always held it as a sign of a weak presenter if they constantly bring their producer in. A good presenter doesn't need anyone else.

What's that? Twice in a year that you've agreed with me?

I'm hoping they may upload some more pictures to the Radio 1 website that will include Rach & Andy Parfitt. Would love to them.

Someone at work is a "Rachael" and I always think it looks stupid. I want to pronounce it "Rach ale".

I'm sure I've seen it spelt Racheal before now as well.

My real name is John, yet some people have spelt it Jhon in the past
