Bit of a rant, bit of a 'is it just me' post.

I have always listened to the show on listen again, manage to make it last pretty much all day with breaks for phone calls, lunch etc and used to find with the old pre-iplayer listen again that it was always hit and miss wether the show would be available before midday. Then for a while it got so fast you could get it at about 10:01 then the iplayer kicked in and it got a bit slow again, then picked up for a good long time and was great. Recently though it seems to have gone back to being useless, sometime seeming to take until about 2pm or later to get the show available....and then if it does it seems to start playing in some wierd real player/iplayer combo thing (not sure if that is just for me or not!).

Anyone got any ideas why it can take so long sometimes? I can't imagine it is all done manually, surely there is an automated system that just updates the links to the new stream. I am amazed it isnt available from the start of the show tbh as I would imagine it is just a copy of the listen live feed?

Oh yeah and finally the old way of putting the url in real player always works fine, but means you have to use real player (which I dont like) and the quality never seems to be the same...jumpy and odd sound levels.

anyway, rant over, just grumpy on a Monday morning because I can't listen to the show whilst answering emails etc.

I'd imagine that due to all the trouble the BBC has been getting in recently, each show has to be manually approved before being put online, which obviously takes a lot longer.
It sounds a bit ridiculous I know, but I wouldn't put it past the BBC as they are ultra-careful right now.

I found the real player problem aswell, had been using listen again for a while absolutely fine, then 1 day I went to use it and it told me I had to download latest version of real player

I'm pretty sure that's correct, I remember reading something the other day about a gaffe from David Jason being edited out of a BBC radio broadcast before being put on Listen Again, as it was construed as racist. Can't remember which station but it was sometime last week I think...

Absolute Radio. He made a joke about Pakistani's. It wasn't even live,it was pre-recorded and edited out, so no-one heard it, yet people found out about it and still complained. Go figure.

That was a Christian O'Connell show wasn't it? Is he on the BBC now?

EH?!

"Dear Ofcom, I would like to complain about a comment that neither I nor anyone that might actually have been listening (unlike myself who merely read about it in the Daily Mail) heard on the Christian O'Connell show. David Jason's racist slur was absolutely disgusting and it should have been removed. In fact, it was. But the interview still went out, so I would like to complain anyway. Yours sincerely, Lord Toffeenose of *."

Welcome to the world in 2009, it's a load of bolocks (i'll probably get sued by a man with one testicle, saying 'using that word is unfair, testiclephobic and has made me consider suicide')

Sources: BBC and Daily Mail. Not sure who I trust more in this situation but at least their stories match.

Ahh, it did go out live but as edited out for the podcast, i got it the wrong way round  I'm sure the Sun said they had complaints though, but i guess that's what i get for reading said paper

Agree 100% listen again is all over place, Thursdays is the worse day Ive noticed some Thursdays the show becomes available around 3PM, maybe the listen again people have a course or training on a Thursday. :D

Even is someone has to OK it before it goes online then surely that is done by listening to the show live? It would seem if that is the case (someone having to give it the ok) then they are listening to it after it has finished.

As again today it is gone 1 and still only yesterdays show showing :(

Yep same here I downloaded Mondays show via FlashGet two days ago from the international links but the rest of the links are just remaining static not downloading at all.

Seems they are going for a record today! 19:40 and still no sign of today's show :( Surely it can't be the team themselves that have to put it online (or change the link or whatever). I have been listening to the 'international' link for today's show which seemed to be available straight away as usual, though I think they still managed to chop out the bit of swearing, as I have listened to it twice and cant work out what they start apologizing for :|

Anywho, getting very sick of the listen again feature now :(
