The place where everyone hangs out, chats, gossips, and argues

we have to be about a month away from the new rajar figures coming out. Does anyone have any predictions on what will happen. And if anything in particular has helped increase/reduce the figures for the show.

I think that chris will take over wogan and head into the 8 - 8.25 million listeners. There has been some of the funniest moments in the last 2-3 months.

I don't see much happening. We're into holiday season. If anything they'll go down slightly.

True, the figures will go down now but will the next ones not be for the past 3 months?

I can see them going up, especially with the ability to watch the show online might attract a few more people.

Well they don't give the exact numbers of people who listen to any given show, no - but there's currently no way to get that information. They are still the tool used for measuring the audience though. They aren't accurate for Chris's show, but they aren't accurate for anyone elses either. If the actual numbers are approximate, the differences and the level of change they indicate is still significant. Even if we don't know the exact number of listeners, we can still see from the Rajars who is going up and who is going down - and its important not to take each set of figures in isolation, they really only have any meaning when they are taken as a series in context.

Will digitalisation potentially bring about better ways to measure audiences? I have no idea how it might, but as technology moves on blah blah blah.....?

from what i've heard radio will cease broadcasting in am/fm by 2018 and go too dab only. So if we are too have accurate figures. I guess we will have too wait till the whole uk is fully digital.
For now we get too argue, debate and analise the radio figures.

Yes. Which is why Yudster picked up on it.

Or maybe they'll go up seeing as a hell of a lot of people are off work/school for summer. They'll still be up early if they have kids etc

iM willing to bet the figures for october-decemebr will not be very good, after the changes take effect.Older listeners will switch off ,as well as scottish listeners because Edith is gone, and maybe asian listeners with Nihal gone. The Jo Whiley slot in particular will probably be well down on the previous quarter

Yeah, because people only ever listen to radio presenters when they come from the same country as them.

He's right, I only listen to Radio 1 for Edith Bowman because she's Scottish. As soon as Gordon Brown is no longer PM I also plan to emigrate.

For the record, swapping Edith for Greg will make me more likely to listen to that slot now.

Yep same here, I've nothing against Edith, and I'm sure she's a lovely person in real life. However it remains the fact that she replaced Mark & Lard and wasn't off the wall enough for my liking, and so for that she has to go! ;)
