The place where everyone hangs out, chats, gossips, and argues

Tomorrow morning, Dom will read out a news story about how doctors are asking for a ban on alcohol advertising. It's actually a report from the British Medical Association. That report contains a section called "The Web of Alcohol Marketing Promotion" which includes this sentence:

"This web becomes even more tangled when indirect media references are taken into consideration – from soap opera’s set in pubs, through the plethora of drinks references on greetings cards to radio DJs bragging about their hangovers."

I wonder who they could mean...!

In case you were wondering, the authors of this report are a bunch of killjoys paid by the government to lobby the government to make drink more expensive and going to the pub as miserable as possible (it's already started in Scotland).

The thing that annoys me about all this is how it is yet again a case of PEOPLE NOT TAKING RESPONSIBILITY FOR THEIR OWN ACTIONS!!!

They spoke to the mother whose son died at the age of 22 from drinking & although she didn't blame advertising for his premature death*, he had been drinking since he was 11 because his parents split up. However the question still remains, how the hell did he manage to drink from the age of 11 without either parent detecting that he was drinking that much in the first place.

*EDIT: I must apologise I misheard the interview & she doesn't actually blame advertising, although my first & final points still remain.

Too right, Johnny. Plenty of us manage to have the odd drink without coming to any harm at all. Some of us enjoy our booze and become successful radio DJs!

Moyles has said in an interview recently that he doesn't really go out much any more. Here:
Chris Moyles wrote:I find it [the fact I still have a laddish image] really bizarre. I don’t like to go out and get trollied and have a kebab and vomit on the night bus – I gave that up a long time ago. I’m very boring off the air, I go home and live a boring life and all I talk about is going running and what I'm cooking for my dinner.

It's true he goes on about running a lot more than alcohol now.

Also - someone (I'm not sure who) interviewed on Newsbeat mentioned the that dominant effect of advertising is to cause brand switching rather than people to start binge drinking and I'm very inclined to believe that.
