Actually he looks like a pickled walnut with hair - but that's besides the point. He could be Brad Pitt and he'd still be rubbish doing anything other than playing the piano.

Matt Fincham is a waste of space.

Not completely, on the show he may not appear to have a huge input other than being the butt of many jokes. But I remember from when Radio 1 did the Access All Areas, he sits in front of the computer till about 6pm editing audio and doing show prep, so behind the scenes he probably has a big input to the show.

Obviously Chris and Dave write and plan the show's content but Fincham probably ends up preparing most the stuff for the next day along with Aled.

I don't question that as Assistant Producer Matt has a job to do. I merely object to the boundaries of that job being extended to include on-air appearances. Its not so bad now but there was a time when he was shoving his face into everything and making sure that he got on air as much as he could, but he had nothing to say for himself so it just came across as shameless self-promotion. I remember during the live video streaming period he would make sure that he was always sitting where he could be clearly seen too, even though there was no need for him to be in the studio during the broadcast at all.

If they need live musical input, he's definitely the man, he's brilliant at that. Beyond that though, keep him off air - the assistant producer doesn't need to also be a presenter. It worked for Aled, but he is special. In so many ways......!
