The place where everyone hangs out, chats, gossips, and argues

Posting 100s of messages isn't really practical, so why don't we all meet up in a chat room whenever we are online?
I'm an IRC freak and I'm not used to posting msgs, so I'm thinking of setting up a channel on IRC for MoylesWorld/Chris Moyles fans. I could probably get some bots for the channel to stay on 24/7 and op the appropriate people. I'm thinking of setting it up on EFnet (the only decent network), anybody interested?
If you need any help getting onto IRC, try http://www.irchelp.org and http://www.mirc.co.uk. Download Mirc and connect to an EFnet server (efnet.demon.co.uk, irc.ins.net.uk). Then type in "/join #moyles". You can also access IRC from java applets, but I don't need to tell you whats wrong with those.
Thanks,
the_dr

Ohhh - been years since i used IRC
I tried a while back to get the same thing going on AOL or MSN (which happens occasionally I might add).
AOL IM is a much friendlier Chat in my opinion, but then again, thats me.
Willing to try and resurrect the "meet in the chat room on MW at a certain time" if you all want.

I like my chat raw and dirty - none of that user friendly shite :)
MSN and AOL aren't really designed for group chats though - inviting is a pain in the arse. I like the pop in and chat style of IRC.
the_dr

I have founded #moyles on DALnet. No need to mess around with stupid bots just to keeps ops. Chanserv can manage all that. My nick in there is EddieHitler.
Paul.

as spanner said we've tried this before. shall we actually do it this time?
all it needs is someone to take the initiative. so i'm gonna suggest wednesday night, lets say 6/6.30. any problems?
lets try and agree how we chat. i'm not bothered.

Sounds like a good idea but I haven't got a clue how to work things like that (I'm crap with computers!). I can work MSN but thats about it.

MSN is impractical to say the least - you have to invite people into the chat I think.
You shouldn't have any trouble operating an applet. Try http://www.grrltalk.net/irc_popup.html. "moyles" where it says channel, "irc.eu.dal.net" where it says Server Name and "6660" where it says Server Port. Enter the other details and press connect.
the_dr

Being think maybe. But having a crap computer is no excuse. IRC has been around since the early years of the internet.

IRC scares a lot of the "ohh people are out to hack my computer" fearing public.
I used to live on IRC and streamed on a room there (Internet DJ`ing) - but I stopped IRC a while back.
Might return now though that there is decent folk to talk 2

YEY!
IRC is still the best chat tool - it's powerful, runs on any platform, low bandwidth, low memory, multi featured and it has a large user base.
Come on!
the_dr
