radio 1 have a stringent policy and thats to appeal to the masses, the popular brand, the public perception of the product. Take Depeche Mode, been around 20 years, still sound cutting edge, dont get played cos most of the modes fans are over 18. hear'say manufactured band, watched by millions, bought by millions, gets played. the geri song is baffling though, its a cutting edge thing again, cover from the 80's, the evil word being the "EIGHTIES". what bbc execs think ppl want is thumping dance and boring r n b craig david soundalike dross. no we dont. this is what i want from a station
1 music which is not played in rotation every two hours
2 genre hopping for a change
3 if u dont want to play 80's music, at least play what you think was 80's cutting edge.
4 get a dj who is into the music, not some divvy like dave pearce who likes every record they throw at him and diss every record not on the playlist.
The whole mentality of the buying public is stupid. Endless promotion and if you get a/list you are guaranteed a top 5 position. Familiarity leads to Saturation. So the moral of the story is. If you play with shite, your hands get dirty.
