jonny- it's not a fetish. it's a hobby. and seriously, i think gordon brown did okay, although i agree with mr harris, paying taxes sycks, it is something of our civic duty. (but being in america the tax burden is nothing compared to that of most european communities.)

that's all part living in a state with social welfare and an army. just because i pay my taxes so that public schools can buy paper, doesn't mean i condone the bombings performed by my goverment around the world. there are those who evade their taxes because they don't want to feed the war machine. instead they donate the money they should have paid to charities to help the community in ways that the goverment should. i admire these people, but alas i didn't have to pay anymore tax, but rather got a return (which will be donated to charity).

but let's get back to brown the frown- he just the taxes on beer brewed by pubs, and bingo. that's cool!

i think it was a great budget (not many more before brown comes pm) and sod all the whinging gits moaning about paying more taxes. lets hope finally we have a labour government that knows what socialism is....

The thing I think is seriously f**ked up about the NHS is perscription charges. I went to work and paid tax for two years and I had to pay for perscriptions. I'm now at uni and I am skint, but I still have to pay for perscriptions because I used to work. Most student's don't pay for them and they've never paid a penny to the taxman in their life, so why should I have to pay when I've worked and payed tax for two years?

What makes all this worse is that I have eczama and I am asthmatic so I have to get more perscriptions than most people.

Sorry for rambling on, just wanted to get it off my chest.

jonny. if you invest that money or part of it into a ISA, then you won't have to pay tax or its reduced quite alot. depending on the rates and how much you want to put in. its £4000 or £7000 is the max you can put in at any time.

off-shore accounts and moving to Jersey are other ways of saving cash

lynch... have you ever heard of satire or sarcasm? would a 19 year old girl really fancy a quirky actor (possibly), a gay film director known for raunchy camp (eh, not as such), the a fat old mp who's prone to violence (doubtful), and the german hybird tom jones, barry manilow, and elvis (course not!)?

in all seriousness though, i think prescott is decent. i read an interview with him recently that made him more human than vogon. but i still respect brown more. he's hiked taxes, but the buget really seems to be a step towards a more socialist state. could this be the resurgence of old labour? gaspode intimated that brown may be the next pm (or at least labour party leader), and think this budget could make or break it for him. right now he seems like the logical successor to blair, but who knows in the next four years. let's just hope the tories keep shooting themselves in the foot....
