Request and download your Moyles-related sound or video clips in here

Sometimes (around once a week and often on Wednesdays) a particular file won't work with the Mac downloader. I haven't got enough technical knowledge to have any idea why, but it's a pain in the arse.

I've got Friday's show as an mp3, unedited, if anyone wants it. If you do, let me know and I'll get it to you. PM would be best as I might not be checking the forum much today.

the best software to use now is the i player downloader called 'get i player':-

http://linuxcentre.net/getiplayer/

it does look a little complicated at first but it's better to use. it downloads the shows as the higher quality 128kbps mp3's instead of the 44kbps realmedia files, which are still in effect if you choose the 'lower bandwith' option in the embeded i player.

there's a guide on how to use it fully here:-

http://linuxcentre.net/getiplayer/documentation/

if you want the quick way (just to download chris moyles shows), there's only two things you really need to know.

the first is to search for the programe you want to download, for example if i want the monday 26th october 2009 show of chris moyles.

start up the programe via start > all programes > get_iplayer > Run Get_iPlayer

then enter this code in the command prompt when the software starts, it will have 'C:\Program Files\get iplayer' and a flashing cursor when ready:-

Code: Select allget_iplayer --type=radio moyles

then press 'enter'

this should then list anything with 'moyles' that's avalible on the i player, as expected you'll see 5 radio shows.

now for the second part, to download the show. find the 5 digit number at the start of the show you want to download, for 20/10/2009 it's '12327'. now put this code in the command prompt:-

Code: Select allget_iplayer --get 12327

of course replacing '12327' with the number of the show you want to download.

press 'enter' again.

wait for the download to get to 100%, and then it should of saved as an mp3 in the programs' 'downloads' folder. which you can find at:-

start > all programs > get_iplayer > downloads folder

Personally I've been using HiDownload and until recently I could just feed it the iplayer url from which it would find me a 100MB .ra file. However the other week it stopped being able to do that, i guess the iplayer must have changed in some way hence your post, and since then i've been feeding it the links from http://www.iplayerconverter.co.uk/r/1/aod/default.aspx from which it will find me a 75MB .ra file. I then use dbpoweramp to convert to mp3 and split into 10 min tracks.

Edit

get_iplayer works well although a gui would be nice, thanks for the link. Any idea of the windows command to specify output folder?

Success, thanks greatly Console. I had honestly tried both forward slash and back slash and neither had worked. In hindsight i should have twigged the reason, which i think is due to the fact the bbc server seemed to die for a period last night. Either way, thanks again.

Hi 2 other ways to download the whole show that I saw on google -

http://www.nerdoftheherd.com/tools/radiodld/ - download from the iplayer here
Or
http://www.rizzle.net/ripper/ - this looks like its like a radio recorder. Just put the time and date of the show you want to record and record the stream. Looks like it works offline too - Radio 1's stream url is - http://www.bbc.co.uk/radio/listen/live/r1.asx

Hey I tried the Radio Downloader and the concept is perfect and JUST what I would need. The problem is, it's only downloading half or a third of the show. Am I doing something wrong? Should I take another route? The reason I REALLY like this one is it will download them automatically for you.
