Well folks after months of promotion ("love parade is coming" over the start of every record and adverts with sara cox and pete tong) it would appear that love parade is cancelled. Thank god for that at least i don't have to hear coxy (that well known dance dj) telling me that it'll all be kicking off on the tyne bridge at 1pm on saturday july 23rd. Your comments please...

OK look, this really isn't radio 1's fault, believ me they wanted it to go ahead, they spent 6 months + booking/organising it so don't blame them!!!!!
I personally have spent the whole of last week booking accomodation and travel for the whole Radio 1 TV team in order to film it for a Radio 1 TV special which was supposed to kick off our series ("Radio 1 TV"). Where do you think that leaves us???? We now have 2 weeks to turn around a completely new and different show but that's life!!!!!
Radio 1 had to give an ultimatum to Newcastle council because they had to have enough time to let people know it wasn't to take place if the council couldn't get their act together, unfortuantely they couldn't so a cancellation was the only way to go.
Thankyou and goodnight....at least I get next weekend off work now, I was supposed to be up in Newcastle filming for the whole event......would have been a laugh though!
Eddie

all i can say is hahahahahahaha

dance music is crap repetitive rubbish. djs are famous for playing other peoples music. the only excuse was for 250000 students and halfwits to get trolleyed and high on dope. its popular in germany but then so is david hasselhoff. and who at the radio 1 playlist thinks a song that goes "fire... wire... is a good song". i rest my case, im off to radio 2 to listen to some decent music

uglybob: I get the impression that you're not a big radio 1 fan - with your liking for Radio 2 and Jonathon Ross. Do you actually like Moyles? Are you in the R1 dmeographic? Why are you here? Shouldn't you be listening to Steve Wright?

Sound to me like Radio 1 were getting ahead of themselves. I'm sure it's not their fault they had to cancel it, but it does smack of bad organisation.
If the council weren't ready then Radio 1 should have been talking to them and getting it sorted months ago.
I've heard from my sources that Radio Devon may run with the ball that radio 1 dropped and organise the Winkleigh brass band parade in the city od Leeds.

There seems to have been a lot of music event cancellations recently - Glastonbury 2001, Berlin Love Parade 2001, Newcastle Love Parade 2001. Maybe they're scared because of recent crowd disasters at recent European fesitvals. The Leeds Love Parade went ok didn't it?
the_dr

Its down to the shifting in mass musical tastes amongst the nations. Country and brass will emerge as the leading music genres in the UK within two years. Dance music will be relegated to the tardis skip and transported to 19th century england. The term drum and bass will no longer be used to describe a form of dance music, but will be used to phrase the purchasing of a strong tobbaco brand of low value on contriban.

Exactly, Radio 1 is great for specialist interest - Steve Lamacq, Westwood, Giles Peterson, Dreem Team and Goldfinger, not to mention all the Pete Tongs and Judge Jules-type DJs. I think we should be proud of our Radio 1, it might not be perfect - but just look at the alternative: Steve Wright playing Country & Western or some local radio DJ playing Hear'Say.
The only serious alternative I can see in the future is XFM.
the_dr

I think they should add "love parade isn't coming" to every record, and get moyles to explain what isn't going to happen. This would ensure that everyone knows not to go.

Moyles did that on Friday, Dave did the whispering 'love parade isn't coming' at about 3.40pm on Friday. Good idea though, just a few days too late!
the_dr
