You will have to check if it is locked; e.g. even if it's a UK Vodafone Phone a German Vodafone SIM might be rejected.

I don't know. It used to be a contract phone, so it might be locked, how do I find out? It's a Nokia 3410 by the way.

Well it used to be O2, and I just tried my new SIM in it (which is Vodafone) and it appears to be working fine. I guess that means it's ok.

O2 and Vodafone are often compatible, you need to try it with Orange, T-Mobile or Virgin, really. I guess I should have said this.

Well do they have Vodafone or O2 in Germany...?
By jimmy g
#141987
That wouldn't mean it would work, being as Vodafone / O2 just bought up a load of these companies a few years ago and changed their names to Vodafone / 02.

Aren't any of you aware that very few european handsets work in the US? Only ones that are tri-band will. Single band and dual band ones aren't capable of operating on the US frequencies.

The old GSM 900 system will work in a few places, but it's mostly GSM 1900 in the States, and GSM 1800 here. Plus the charger won't go in your walls. Different voltage and fitting.

Whoops, forgot to mention that all UK phones use both GSM 900 and 1800. I don't know how many different bands US phones work on. Sorry.

sidders is right!

man, don't you people remember anything?

see, i'm studying in germany until august (come and visit by the way) and i'm thinking about getting a handy/mobile. my house has a house phone, but it's hard to contact people on the programme with it (but cheaper to call home). so i thought about getting a mobile, if i got an old one for cheap and then bought a sim card. i hear o2 and vodafone are expensive over here. (or at least on the rich kids on the programme used them). i'm looking at e-plus. they're CHEAP!!!

i might just stick with the land line too.
