You need to buy a VHS/DVDR Combo, which allows you to tape from one format to the other. Depends how much you are willing to pay though as they can be pricey like this

I have done this with my LiteOn DVD recorder, but you will need to update the software as most videos are copy protected, I was given a DVD by a friend with the new software on, that DVD was lost, and he now lives abroad so I have no idea where it came from.

i dunno uk brands, but i know that in america the most reliable dvd-r's i've found tend to be the bigger names, like memorex and hp.

probably a cheaper method is buying a small piece of hardware for your computer to capture from the vhs

try here: http://www.pinnaclesys.com/PublicSite/uk/Home/
(click transfer your tapes to dvd under consumers, something from the Dazzle DVC range looks good - you link to video using 3 rca leads)

Once you've got the video saved as an mpg on your pc then just burn it onto dvd... assuming you've got a dvd burner?? :)
