I think it's interesting to see this happening, but I hope it's done sensitively as this line of viewpoint can lead to dodgy ground.

I look forward to seeing the programmes.

If the BBC are hosting the show I'm pretty sure everything will be done by the book. Does the freedom of speech cover this kind of thing, I mean can you make a T.V program about anything or are there some rules you must follow ?

Just seen the first programme on the iPlayer ('Last Orders').
Really interesting, but at the same time very confused as to what its message was. This is a poorly managed working men's club facing closure due to bad decisions and not being able to keep up with modern trends. Quite how the presenter managed to crowbar in multiculturalism I don't know. It also made out all white working class people to be underskilled and racist, which is obviously not true - I think there are just some people in this country who cannot get with the times.
I also do not think that they have been 'forgotten' by most of us - only the BBC bosses who've spent the last 10 years or so trying to concentrate on other areas of 'minority'.

It is, it brings a lot of issues to the table and my head is now buzzing - which is what any good documentary should do.

Right Ok, I may have to go and watch It now. The best documentaries are all the ones done by Horizon.

I have a feeling you may spend a week trying to work it out.

We were talking today about the call centre my sister used to work in, which had two UK offices and two Bangladesh ones. Apparently, Lianne worked with a couple of Indian women who routinely got asked "can you put me through to someone in England?" That hasn't got a hell of a lot of relevance to this, but it made me chuckle.

i'm thinking about downloading this show, but i really want to know this: could the term white be substituted for "british" or something like that? it's probably because i'm a PC liberal but i find the use of race pretty polarizing and often inappropriate and just trying to be extra provocative. i don't doubt there's a racial element, but there are probably many other issues unrelated to race.

Black doesn't necessarily mean foreign. I agree with Kendra.

It's definitley polarising the matter (well, certianly the first programme was - the second one was more about politics). I think they should really be showing the experiences of all working class people - what colour or religion you are doesn't really make a great deal of difference. A system where people would prefer to take benefits rather than go to work has to be questioned, I think.
It's definitley aiming to make people think in a polarised manner - but I think the answer is not that simple (nothing ever is). I personally think that a multicultural society brings so much to this country and should be encouraged, however any situation that results in people not being able to communicate with those around them and therefore not feeling totally included in the community is a bad place to be for all involved.

But why do bigoted people like you insist on calling England "our country", and why do you mean exclusively white people when you say "our"?

'Our country' doesnt always have to mean white people of English nationality - it can be used in a totally inoffensive way that includes everyone. However, on this particular occasion I agree with what you are saying.

So you genuinely do believe that unless you are white and can trace your ancestry back through however many generations of other white people in Britain, you have no right to regard England/Britain/UK as your country? Because that's the only obvious thing I can see in your comments, and I would be horrified if anyone actually did believe such a riduculous notion.

Everyone moans about the state of the country at times, but not all of us would go on and on bout it being better somewhere else, it's those people I don't quite understand and also I don't understand why we have to change everything including our laws/language/culture to accommodate them. If that makes me racist for wanting to keep some of our traditions and heritage then so be it.

she's way more articulate than you.

how much is your culture really changing to accommodate them, though? it seems like a natural outcome in this globalised economy. i say this as somebody from a nation built by immigration and the myth of inclusion, so we don't have the same cultural identity as the uk. many western countries, like britain and the us, need immigrants to sustain because people refuse to do service labour jobs- too many entitled people and all that.

you should all kick out the normans.

That absolutely was not your point and if it was, you need to learn the definitions of even the most basic words in the English language, because you said something totally different.
