I am shortly going to be starting a new job traveling up and down the country* So can anyone recommend some good hotels to stay at budget of around £75-£100 per night including breakfast. Any coments about why and wherefores would be good and it can include chain hotels like Holiday Inn, Best Western, Jurys Inn and the like but also any independant hotels aswell. Keep recomendations as random as you like as some independant themed hotels can be a change from the norm! I start in 4 weeks time and can not wait! :D

*Country being made up of England, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland just so there is no confusion.

You can't go wrong with a Travelodge for cheap and cheerful. OK they generally don't come with breakfast, but you can usually order that for an extra few quid, depending on whether there's a restaurant next to it. Otherwise, Premier Holiday Inn usually have a restaurant attached and I think their prices include breakfast, but I couldn't be certain and I'm not sure what the prices are.

I tend to recommend B&Bs in Colchester - we have the usual chain hotels but they aren't as good. There are a couple - on called The Old Manse which has won national awards and another called The Red House which is pretty good too - there are more. If you think Colchester might fall into your itinerary, let me know and I'll get details to you.

The Holiday Inn express in Nottingham is good, stayed there last weekend. Very friendly staff and the rooms were nice. Breakfast included and has its own bar... with happy hour :) what more can you want!

See, I wouldn't know about Milton Keynes, because I've never stayed here. When I stayed in Bolton for work, they put me in the Holiday Inn Express (I think), which is right outside the Reebok Stadium, that was pretty good.

The Hyatt in Birmingham is gorgeous but i think it starts at 140 a night or something. Worth it for a treat though, ask for a room high up because they have ceiling to floor windows and the view is amazing.

Avoid the Best Western in Brighton, we were going on the Sunday and I booked it on Saturday night. I was in trouble for leaving it so late to book, and in even more trouble when the Mrs saw the room. A shower cubicle with twelve different types of mould, thread bare carpets, damp walls and what looke like second hand bed linen. Not to worry though because breakfast was included, and what amazing fare that really was; one sausage, one slice of toast, one rasher of bacon and some dried up baked beans.......... Things didn't improve really as Mrs Ladbroke broke her toe falling down a step after a few too many Pinot's. Bad times.

Can't go wrong with any Premier Travel Inn, does pretty much what it says on the tin. The one near Heathrow is very good and actually feels a little bit plush for what you pay.
