I stayed at home too. I don't regret it cos I saved a lot of money and at the time Preston was the only uni that offered journalism as a degree apart from one in London, and I don't think I would have coped with moving to London at 18 (not sure I could now!) but I did miss out on a lot of 'student life' as a result. I live in an area of Manc that's home to tons of students now, and altho they can be annoying on buses (talking loudly about how drunk they got last nite and where they slept, etc) I do sometimes envy them the lifestyle.
Oh, one thing...if you're storing most/all of your stuff in one room and you fit a yale lock on the door then you can probably be added to your parents' house contents insurance policy at no extra cost, so check that out, just in case.
