... is happening to our younger generation???

ANBERRA (Reuters) - The parents of a 7-year-old boy who broke into an Australian outback zoo and fed a string of small animals to its resident crocodile are likely to be sued after police said the boy was too young to be held responsible.

A turtle, four western blue tongue lizards, two bearded dragons, two thorny devil lizards and a 1.8 metre (5.9ft) adult female Spencer's goanna were fed or led into the jaws of a 3 metre, 200kg (440lb) saltwater crocodile named "Terry."

Security camera footage at the Alice Springs Reptile Centre showed the smiling youngster also bludgeoning to death a small blue tongue lizard and two more thorny devils during a half-hour of breakfast-time havoc last Wednesday.

"The fact a 7-year-old can wreak so much havoc in such a short time, it's unbelievable. In my day he'd get a big boot up the backside," centre director Rex Neindorf told Reuters by phone.

"Police found him, but in the Northern Territory here he can't be accountable if he's under 10 years of age."

Neindorf said many of the animals fed to the croc were rare or mature and would be difficult to replace.

The boy was unknown at the centre and had "clammed up" when questioned by police on what sparked the rampage, he said.

Neindorf said he was now looking at suing the parents of the pint-sized terror, who could easily have been taken by Terry himself as he fed the croc from a small landing at his enclosure.

"We'll be looking at suing the parents, who were supposedly in control of him at the time," he said.

You kind of have to assume that this lad is more than just badly behaved. There has to be a possibility that he has some kind of personality disorder which might lead to sociopathic or psychopathic tendencies - one of the most recognised common factors in serial killers apparently is a childhood tendency to mistreat, torture or kill small animals and pets. Rather than sueing the parents, I think it might be better to compel them to have the child assessed medically.

When I was 7, a trip to the park, a loaf of bread and a few ducks was my lot. Oh and sometimes I'd run into a sea of pigeons in the town centre just to scare them off.

On a serious note animal cruelty disgusts me, it is far more shocking to me than, say, some of the government health warnings you see on fag packets or the 'speed kills' campaign on the telly.

Same here, some animals are treated appallingly even though they have never done anything wrong. It's just uncalled for. I once went to court to testify against some prick who decided to beat the living crap out of his dog in the park because it ran off to chase some seagulls. He was banned for live from having pets... although it saddens me to think that he could probably still get a pet if he went via say the Friday Ad.

It's bascially a weekly paper but with advertisements, some jobs and things for sale. I've always thought it was national... obviously not.

Yes, as well as an abusive upbringing, usually.

I think they should sue the parents as well as have him psychologically evaluated. The article I read earlier said that his expression was "blank" as he was doing all this -- the little psychopath...

We get the Friday Free Ads too.

This child is obviously mentally disturbed. There have been accounts of how, when their pasts have been investigated, serial killers began their interest in murder with animals - either torturing or killing them. I would avoid this lad at all costs and get him some serious help!
