I dunno, my mum was pregnant with our Darren when I was six so I started asking the 'where do babies come from' questions and I got given a book that was like "mummy and daddy lie close together". Not only is that really not the truth, but it could terrify a kid into thinking they're gonna get pregnant/get someone pregnant anytime they lie near somebody else! So I think being a tad more specific could be a good idea...

Why is it? Holland has some of the lowest teenage pregnancy rates in Europe and they teach sex education from very young.

counter argument would be that because teens are having sex younger and younger, that they need as much time as possible to fully acclimatise to the idea of sexual activity. whether 5 is the right age is debatable, but there is a need for at least 5 years of education before they are likely to begin sexual activity.

i learned all i know about sex from the internet (as the school system was poor in that respect and my parents just were very sheepish over the issue...still are)- and that's a dangerous thing for children to be looking toward in order to gain the knowledge.

To be honest it works both ways. It may help to prevent the people who are going to go on and become teenage parents but it may make all of the other kids more aware of it and therefore more likely to become teenage parents themselves where they wouldn't have before

Agreed, surely the priority is teaching young'uns how to prevent things as opposed to how you do things. If that makes sense.

This is the Mail.

These books are meant for primary schools. That is children 5 to 11.

When you you think a head would choose to teach this? At 5 when the children are happy singing Pepper Pig, or at 11, just before they go to senior school with big "boys" or start to change into Adults?

Yes of cource, at age 11, * daily Mail bollocks, stupid * people believing in this shit.

In 1993 Dr Ruth did a book very similar.

Did I mention that I think this is a bollocks story.
