well there is always the idea that the abuser, was the abused at some point in the past. can you have pity in circumstances such as this? probably not
Who's to blame? mainly the people who knew it was happening but didn't say/do anything.
We all know right from wrong even when doing wrong, nobody would bother to hide the bad things they had done if that wasn't the case**. does sitting on the fence doing nothing about a situation feel wrong?
I'd hate the police to have the wrong bloke or their actions to have resulted in a worse situation for the familiy when they are just trying to do their job.

** then everthing would be right because of a lack of a definition of "wrong" mmm think my argumnet fell over...ah well, i meant well

lets hope there is some kind of closure soon.

Its unfortunate timing that all these allegations of a culture of paedophilia at Radio One in particular, emerge at the very same time when the station seems to be aiming itself firmly in the direction of the 13 & 14 year old girl demographic. :?

There's a fella who works in my local Pizza Hut who is brilliant at his job. It annoys me because he is wasted there and would do a great job in any line of customer service. He's from morocco and is proof that immigration in the most part works! He is head and shoulders above the other employees there.

The whole Jimmy Savile thing was clearly an "open secret" and joked about within the BBC.

I went to a recording of The News Quiz about 10 or so years ago -- in the same BBC Radio Theatre that the penultimate RCMS show was held and at one point there was a stream of jokes about Savile being a peado. At the time, the panelists said "That'll all be cut out". And it was, of course.

Maybe try non-franchise establishments in town? From what I remember, Loughborough has loads of them.

Thanks, yeah I'll keep trying. There are a few small cafes around.

My great-aunt Ivy died this morning. She was 93 and had had a great life, but had had dementia for the past few months so in a way it's a relief to see her go. Very sad anyway.

8 new team members today, i've been moved desk to supervise 4 of them, not sat with my friends* any more. Humph.

* The team members who i've worked with for years and get on with, not 'out of work' chums.

Yes, this. However, the word is 'if' - the guy has to go through due process in a court of law and even then juries can convict innocent people. Not very often nowadays, I grant you, but it's still possible.

DNA on the suspect or his possessions.
Confession.
Witnesses.

etc.

You can if there's substantial DNA/forensic evidence that coincides with witness statements and other things that pin the person to the crime. It's very complicated and goes beyond the A-Level Law I did in college! Especially if they've found items at his home or car that have the girls DNA on it. My suspicions though are that there could be another twist in this case. I'm not hoping that's the case, but you would of thought the suspect would of told the police where the body is by now or someone would of come across a body (which normally happens).

Touching on the punishment side of things for this type of crime; I always think it should be eye-for-an-eye. However, society has gone beyond that in probably the best way and I'd rather see someone slowly deteriorate in a prison cell with no human rights at all. That's just as painful as not being able to see the rest of your life through if you killed someone.

Argh! I'm annoyed with myself now as an old work colleague tried to beat that one out of me.

Hashtags used outside of twitter are annoying as well.

I always think that's when they've set up an app to do it and then forgotten that some tweets, like those with hashtags, don't really work on facebook.

For me, Twitter and Facebook are different audiences (though there's some crossover, it's not a lot) - so sometimes I do post to both, but to be honest I rarely use Facebook now anyway.

Ditto. Apart from keeping in touch with closest friends (where FB does very well at - it should become a pure minimalistic communication tool with the photo/video sharing add-ons alike Blackberry Messenger), I hardly use it like I did when it first appeared.

Same here too. I've thought several times about deactivating my account and I think I'm edging closer to it. That whole thing about private messages appearing as wall posts the other week almost pushed me to it (yes I know facebook denied it, but I saw it with my own eyes on my own wall - things I was 100% sure had been private were there for all to see).

Facebook is still unparalleled when it comes to meeting the general needs of social event organising and social photo sharing, purely because of the people that are on it & ease of use, and it's actually a little bit more interesting when it comes to news (the social reader apps such as the Guardian are much better than the scattergun approach of Twitter). It's also still a powerful marketing tool if used correctly, sadly nowdays it seldom is!

I see Facebook as being for my non-geek friends, however Twitter fulfils the geekier friends I have. I can't wait til something new comes along though, too many idiots on Twitter for my liking - diluting the quality, ease and functionality of it.

I don't do facebook or twitter, to be honest i don't really understand them, but yesterday some c**t manged to hack into my wee girls facebook account & posted some obscenity on 'the wall' thing, She was very upset about it & was worried that we'd think she'd done it. We had to reassure her that we knew it wasn't her (she was at her nan's at the time it was posted) & i have my suspicions who it was. I'm seeing my sister in law later as she's a bit of a computer geek, to find out if i can confirm my suspicions & if true then someone is going to get their f**ken head kicked in.

She's deleting her facebook account as soon as me & my sister in law are finished with it.

Arrrrgh. Having to train up 8 new staff members today. Don't get me wrong, I love the responsibility, but the total lack of support from IT is shocking.

"thats easy, just click on.... Oh, have IT not installed that yet? Oh, sorry, twiddle your thumbs for 45 mins while I get onto them" Grrrr.
