Actually I am retired. Not bad, I said I would when I was 40, but got there 3 years early.

Still if you actually tried to get on with people rather than being aggressive and pedantic, you could make promotion, and get some money so you could retire at say 64.

Best of luck Looser. *

* Again for Toph's- This is said tongue in cheek, just as Toph is not meaning to be really nasty, nor am I, I do get the fact it was a kind of joke, although saying that it would be easy to come back and say i wasn't joking, which would be funny in a kind of "you got that one wrong boboff you *" type Toph way.

I've got Piccadily and Leicester Sq in the McDonalds Monopoly and I only need Coventry Street to win a Mini Cooper and my Missus threw one away yesterday - so she says, she may just be teasing me.

quite what I'd do with a mini cooper I don't know but I'd quite like to win one!

The fact that I always seem to start my journey around the M25 and M40 to Oxford at the 5pm Friday rushour!

The fact that i'm supposed to pay a £30 parking fine, for parking in a FREE LONG TERM PARKING (over 2 hours) car space at Bristol Parkway yesterday! Gonna argue this to the hilt!

Why were you given a ticket? If you were parked legally then I find it hard to believe you would have been - although you clearly believe you were in a free car park space, traffic wardens don't tend to make that sort of mistake. They're often nasty, but not usually incompetent. Sounds like a complicated one!

I agree with Yudster. Were you parked over the line or in a disabled spot inadvertently?

That's what i would like to know. Fair enough if i was parked in the short term car park where you have to pay, but i wasnt. I went to watch CheIsea yesterday and got the train at 8:30, parked up, and was in exactly the same space as the last time i went, (which i parked up at 16:15 and didnt get back until 00:25) at about 8:15, got back at 7:45, and the ticket was timed at 10:29. So 2 hours into parking in a FREE LONG TERM PARKING SPACE (i shall say it again) i get a ticket. Hence why i cant understand it!

No not that either Toph's. There were no disabled spots near where i parked so that's not a problem, and wasnt over any of the lines. I wasnt perfectly straight but i was certainly in between the lines, i even reversed and went back in to make sure i was in between the lines.

Hope that makes sense...

Maybe they just messed up - if it absolutely was a space that you don't have to pay for, you shouldn't have to argue, just explain. Good luck!

Well it probably will turn into an argument because they will insist that i have to pay it or face a bigger fine etc.

No, Yudwuk is right.. if you absolutely are in the right and can explain that to them, they should back down. If, however, they don't, you need to ask them why and exactly what it was that you did wrong.

I am, and that's what i will do. But knowing what come traffic wardens can be like, they will not back down and will not accept any reasoning. Will try my hardest though.

It's not the traffic wardens you have to convince now, it's whoever employs them. The council, probably.

Thats not true, if you can demonstrate that you are in the right, they won't argue - they can't. These people are bound by a lot of legislation, they can't just make it up as they go along, and they don't. If, however, you are mistaken and your parking space should in fact have been paid for, the fact that you got away with it once before won't really be much of a defence!

The only time you need to worry about being illegally charged for stuff like this is in private car parks where clampers and private firms tend to try to do whatever they want (although even there they shouldn't, and if you know your way around the system you can force them to adhere to the law). If this was an proper, official public car park (which it sounds like it was), you should be fine. As long as you are right that is......

I had a fight with the council cos they said I had parked without paying for a ticket, which was a blatant lie - the dozy tit just didn't look in the right place. I sent them a photocopy of the ticket and they backed down.

Just shout and swear a bit and you should get on fine. ('fine' is not a pun)

You shouldn't even need to shout - if you can demonstrate that you are right and they are wrong, they will comply, they have no choice.
