No, me neither! Unfortunately, tricky thing, parenting. Her older brother showed less promise during this period - so was offered financial incentives, should he succeed. He didn't. But, if you offer one, you gotta offer the other, even if she was showing signs of 'doing it for herself'.

I remember my classmates getting financial incentives for good grades, and my mum said that they wouldn't do that as I should want to pass exams for myself, not for monetary reward. That may have been a cover for the fact they couldn't afford it, but maybe they were right In the end I got two As, a B, three Cs and two Ds - a bit of everything. Then a B, C and D at A level - again, a good old mixture - and a 2.1 BA Hons. Just a Pass at MA though, thanks mainly to poor organisation and half-formed ideas. I graduated from that 10 years ago and some of my essays make me cringe a bit now.

She did. Was a most pleasant evening. 'Er indoors had podded a bottle of bubbly in the fridge and I got vino (Black Tower, no less ) on the way home. Also picked up my gal last night for an extended weekend, so we had a right lovely night, played some cards after dinner. Although, at only 11 still, my girly was a little disgruntled at 'only' being allowed a tiny drop of wine in lemonade..! Told her, her time will come! Kids, eh?!
