And there is palm trees actually - I just didn't take any photos of them. They are down at the other end (the daft touristy end).

Sod the palm trees; you have sand! * sand!!! Lucky git. We only get sand at 5am and 9pm when the tide is out.

You lucky bastard of a Scotchlander footy. The best we can come up with around here is Constable Country - very pretty I suppose, but only if you're a) into jigsaw puzzles and b) even older than me.

I have absolutely no desire to go to the Caribbean, but now I really want to go to Loch Lomond. Grrrrr.

I've been to loch Lomond, we stayed in a B and B right next to it. We arrived there late one night and it was pitch black. I just remember waking up in the morning, pulling the curtain back and seeing this HUGE expanse of blue in front of me. Really breathtaking.

There's a thread in General called, ....."Serious post..." by Andrew... read through it. It's something I would call karma.

Foots = that does look pretty amazing, I've still never been to Loch Lomond. :(

Making me smile today - leaving later on for Alton Towers for a few days. 2 days in the park + 2 nights at a Travelodge - £81.50. Bargain.

As for the whole Caribbean/Scotchland argument, I love both. However, whilst Guatemala isn't quite the Caribbean (albeit very, very close) here are some classic pictures from there too.

That's not bad actually. I am lucky enough to live close enough that I can get there and back in the same day and spend all day in the park. It takes about an hour and a half from here.

I've never been to Manchester, but the way you would go would be down the M6 (which I believe involves getting on the M62 from Manchester to the M6.) I think you'd probably get off the M6 at Stoke (which is junction 15 or 16) and then (I think) stay on the A50 until you see signs for Alton Towers (it won't be long; they may even be signs right from the motorway junction at Stoke).

Interesting choice Manchester, when Nottingham, Derby, Stoke and maybe Sheffield are all closer.

Anyways, Alton towers is about an hour and a half away from Manchester, but that depends on where in Manchester you're staying

I thought it was an odd choice too to be fair, I'd have gone for Stoke or Derby I think.

Yeah, as I said I didn't book it, but didn't know any better to recommend any differently to be fair. I'm sure we'll manage.

Was that the Lodge at Loch Lomond? Beautiful location. Great hiking all around the loch, actually.

Love the Viacom entry. Such twats!

Too many people take the Loch for granted - there are loads of other smaller lochs around that area as well. Loch Lomond is a sorta touristy place - there are other and quieter places. It's the one thing that spoiled it yesterday - lots of people travel a long distance to experience piece and quiet. Unfortunatly, they all travel to the same place which results in bottles of Merry Down and sausages on sticks being left lying about.

Loch Lomond and the Trossachs National Park is absolutely spectacular and loaded with bike and hiking paths and dotted with gorgeous smaller lochs but like you said, the crowds get to be a bit much. When they come in by the bus load it ruins the feel of the place! Next time I'm going off-season. That said, I was still really taken with Loch Etive up by Oban. Uncrowded and glorious. Not a manky leftover sausage on a stick to be found.

I get organically farmed loch trout from Loch Etive. It's fabulous.

Why can I not edit my last post? Grr - anyway the fact that Ladbroke actually looks like his old avatar is also making me smile.

Leads me to believe that Yuds actually DOES look like that!

Whats making me smile is getting ready to go for a long weekend in Brighton. We're meeting up with some of our scouse mates so I know we'll have a real laugh. Work is now finished for the week, all bar the odd email, which I'll duly ignore! Have rented a flat about 5 mins away from the sea front, and was bloody good value, £200 for the four of us. Even has a B&O sound system, so I'll be in heaven!
