I did notice it maybe a bit more than usual, and I was driving my son to school at the time. All that said I sometimes inadvertently swear in front of my son, so whats the big deal. He soon reminds me of my 'naughty word'. I have bigger problems when he starts asking questions about some of the stories in the news i.e. what is rape? Why was someone stabbed to death? The odd swear word is nothing when faced with questions relating to terrible stories in the news.

You made a post and asked for opinion. S4B gave her opinion - it wasn;t the same as yours. Are we only allowed to respond to your topics if we agree with you?

She is absolutely right as well - how you can suggest anything as ridiculous as that they should make absolutely sure that the guests don't swear is beyond me - the only way to achieve that would be to gag them, which kind of defeats the object. In other words what you suggest is impossible, and obviously impossible at that.

It was a mistake tom, a slip, an accident. Get over it.

I don't like them reporting the R Kelly trial when my kids are listening, I am in no way a prude, but the phrases like underage sex, pornography and child abuse at 8 in the morning I really don't think that it's on.

What do other parents think ?

I think it's better they learn there are bad people out there once they are old enough to understand vaguely what that means. Before they are old enough to understand I think they ignore the news anyway.

My daughter gives a good impression of ignoring lots of things on the news, then later on I get questions like, "Mam, what is porn?"

I just have to hope she doesn't ask stuff like that in the middle of a crowd!

Kids just end up learning this kind of stuff from friends at school or older brothers, It's just how the system works. Takes the pressure of the parents !

Actually, I don't think it matters if you use ' Of ' or ' From ' they both sounds right, But that might be because I'm from the North :D

Thats the point I was trying to make earlier, the odd swear word kids probably/maybe wont notice. The awkward questions when there are pretty awful news stories are harder to deal with. The R.Kelly story is a good example, plus all the stories regarding gun and knife crime, people being stabbed to death etc. All these these issues are not stuff that I want my 6 year old exposed to, or to have knowledge of. I want him to be a carefree 6 year old. All I do now is turn the car stereo down when the news comes on, which is annoying as I miss the news, but necessary in my opinion.

That R Kelly thing, I was listening when Dominic said Newsbeat had "the only British journalist in court". So its more a case of Newsbeat bandying their willys about, which I suppose is an inappropriate phrase to use - I agree, its filth, and I certainly don't mind swearing on radio, its just a bit un-necessary to go into details purely cos hes famous - just another ugly aspect of the celebrity culture we're all supposed to give a shit about.

People who have kids. We do exist you know. Not everyone has the same life-priorities as you do.

Meh you can't stop kids form being exposed to swear words and it's not as if the BBC goes in to explicit detail on any of their reports on Radio 1 is it?
