I can see Yudster's point about what I said, but the term "English wankers" that I used was solely to use the most obvious thing about them at first glance. Normally it's not that they're most noticeable because they are English, just because Sevilla is absolutely hoaching with England fans right now. Same conforming to every stereotype about being loud, obnoxious yobs and some just getting on with it.

As far as I'm concerned the way I said "English wanker" wasn't racist, I meant to convey the fact they were wankers, and English - not wankers because they were English. Easily misconstrued, and hard enough to convey my feelings properly, especially when I'm relatively sleep deprived.

Tribal nature, Competition and Jingoism should all be encouraged, within reason to give cohesion to society. Where would we be in sport if we were banned from supporting a team ? Its the same "badge " of identity. Where it goes wrong is that you pre-judge based on what team you are supporting. That is wrong and should be stopped, everything else is fair game.

The big problem here is that recognising difference is seen as wrong. No it isn't. Our differences are what make the human race strong. We should acknowledge our diversity and celebrate it. Use it to our advantage, not try to beat it down and sweep it under the carpet.

Of course, its my fault for missing your point. Such as it was (if I have got it at all), it would have been clearer without the "my arse" comment at the end, which implied that I was denying that I had ever been guilty of generalising. Even if you had given me an opportunity to deny it (which you didn't), I wouldn't have done so - MY point was exactly that.

It was disgusting. They were cycling past and the yobs just started throwing oranges and beer at them. If the person stopped to have a word or whatever they'd just pelt him/her even more.

It's a shame for England because that's obviously a minority but it'll be the way some Spaniards few English people now. I now live with an English guy and he says he's never been so ashamed to be English.
