I know people who work in call centres who've been on the receiving end of comments like that from customers. Yep, some people are capable of getting so angry about utilities or bank accounts that they'll wish painful death on the family of innocent phone operators. That scares me a bit.

I haven't had it that extreme but one customer said to me over the phone once before that our firm was so sh*t that they hoped we went bust with all the other firms that were going bust at the time (Woolworths), nice chap. :x

Speaking to folk on the phone is fun. A guy accused me of mugging, raping and murdering his wife last week. Me.

And he was a lawyer as well.

To be fair, I don't think Jade Goody has ever done anything to merit being mentioned in the same thread as Gary Glitter. She might be a plank, so stupid that's she's annoying, and famous for nothing, but she's not necessarily a bad person.

And maybe that's the point. She's a plank, so stupid that she's annoying, she's famous for nothing... is any of that really important when compared with the fact that she is most likely not going to make the end of the year thanks to a horrible disease?

Maybe people just put things in perspective when news like this arrives.

All it is for me is, not the person, but the Cancer itself, I'm the same age as her, kind of brings it home to me that this is all very terminal, and you forget sometimes that it can strike earlier on in life, when you're older you're pretty much fair game for any disease or illness. I'm pleased something positive has come out of it that her being famous with ridiculous amounts of coverage on her plight has made some women go and get checked out. Oh, and apparently all the magazine/TV deals are for her kids future.

Oooh return of the goat.

I met Jade a few years ago and spent a couple of hours with her, she was lovely if a little wearing after a while. I actually think she is an astute businesswoman. She came from nothing and has managed to keep herself in the public eye by, on the whole, playing up to the image of her being stupid. She will die and be forgotten but she'll have left her kids well provided for. Fair play to her.

See you've met her, you've spent a little time with her - you have a proper reason to be interested in her welfare to an extent, and to be personally affected by her situation. Hardly anyone else has really, but they still behave as though they do.........

I see that, but for me its an expectation too far I'm afraid.

She symbolises everything that I detest about the celebrity media culture that we live in

Same, but she can't really be blamed for that. However to my knowledge she's not backed away from the limelight, except perhaps when it suits her. Thats a character trait I don't like about her. However she makes a lot of money doing whatever she does or doesn't do, so why should she back away from the limelight?

I don't think she deserves to die, I could be wrong. Either way, i didn't much care about her life, i don't much care about her death. The same way i don't care about billions of other people across the world :S. Meh.

Jade Goodey wrote:I've got no grudges any more. When you're going through something like this, there's just no point. I bet if Jordan was in my position even she would stop hating the people she hates.

Ms Goodey went up several notches in my estimation when I read that! A lovely combination of good sense and wit.

I don't know the woman beyond what she has chosen to show the world of herself. I know four or five people with cancer at the moment, one of them is on borrowed time as we speak and the others, well, who knows. Nobody deserves cancer, but please don't ask me to pretend I suddenly care about that awful self publicisong Famous For Being Stupid woman just because she is going to die from it. So are lots of people, many of them people I actually care about.

Of course I feel sorry for her kids, but to be honest, I felt sorry for them anyway even before she was diagnosed.

This is exactly what I was saying to a friend last week. It sickens me when as soon as a "famous" person is effected by cancer or a similar deadly diesese the news go on about it and publicise it as if they're the only one who has ever suffered from it. It really does sicken me, especially when Gordon Brown even had his bit to say about it - he probably didn't even know who she was before all this!

Although I still wouldn't wish this on anyone even if I can't stand the dappy, famous-for-being-thick-as-horse-shit*, cow.

Where do you stand on Terry Prachett and his publicising for Altzheimers (sp?)? Is it any famous person or the Jade Goodies of this world (Jordan, Paris Hilton, Russel Brand)?

Although I certainly don't think Jade Goodey deserves to die, I think that people who cause other people to die deserve the same themselves. Serial killers, mad dictators, terrorists and all those sorts of people do deserve to die in my mind - even though it is such a severe punishment.
