I agree that he hasn't improved dramatically in that time but there are glimpses of improvement, however no consistency. I think part of the blame is with Arsenal as they are meant to be the people to nurture their younger players into stars, however I don't think it wholly lies with Arsenal.

Injuries has to be a major factor also. Two shoulder operations have had a major effect as well as reoccurrent hamstring, knee and ankle injuries. Last season was a general write off for him, however, I think 2010/2011 he will shine and seeing as he is only 21 now, he'll have plenty of World Cups/Euro Championships left in him.

One thing though on the topic of Walcott is that I thought his his attitude after finding out he wasn't picked was excellent. No throwing toys out of the pram or anything. Just merely that he was disappointed but respected Mr Capello's decision and wishes the England team the best of luck. Very grown up attitude i think

I hope he does come through and realise all that potential - I just wonder if 21 isn't a little late to still be where he is. I completely agree about his attitude though, he seems a very bright and well balanced lad. Perhaps if he were less well mannered he would have been banging on Wenger's door a few years back demanding a transfer? He could maybe do with a bit more ego and arrogance perhaps. Who knows, but I hope its not too late for him.

I reckon it should be made law that we listen to that Rooney advert rock music throughout the tournament, whether you like it or not - but mostly Fearne Cotton should be made to listen cos she dampens the mood, cheer up luv!

The alternative would be 3 lions but thats been done to death. I can still remember that lacklustre attempt by Embrace 4 years ago, and Chris's voice booming out of the radio on BBC Breakfast news while they were asking people what they thought of the track. I'd like to see that happen again with the 70's track Chris has been playing this morning.

When we first saw that Nike ad Mr Yudster (who is considerably younger than I am) thought i was having some kind of seizure when I jumped up and yelled "Hocus Pocus Focus!" I love that track, I grew up listening to Radio Caroline and going to the Caroline Roadshows - that really takes me back. Although I do think the crazy frog section lets it down a little - other than that its a superb track.

I had forgotten all about that, which, given that I've always quite liked them and own 4 of their 5 albums must mean it was pretty dull. I still think they should have just gone with 'Celebrate' from their album that year - very nice song.

What does everyone think of the new Three Lions? I found it wasn't as Robbie-dominated as I had feared, but my god, who is that female singer? :?

You mean the soprano at the end? If so, its a woman I've never heard of - Olivia Safe. I don't like her voice.

I liked the original Three Lions, not sure on this one. The original was perfect for 1996

It was. And it's clearly never been surpassed - it was great hearing it on the 10 Hour Takeover this week. I think my youngest sister (who was 7 when it came out) still has the CD single.

Actually wasn't 1996 also the year of Eat My Goal and that really good Black Grape one? Fantastic year, nice memories too, even if it did end in tears.

EDIT: Oh, and Vindaloo.

How can you forget Vindaloo! It's the best!

Yudster, I can't help but wonder where Walcott would be as a player if he wasn't at Arsenal.

I swear I've heard it before (and of it), but I couldn't have put the track and name together I don't think - anyway I love it too.

Other than Three Lions (the first two versions) I agree. I still like this version, but it's not quite as... special.

You will recall that Theo had just spent a very interesting time at Plymouth Argyle just before his last trip to the World Cup....I think you know what I am saying.

Yup, you can. 24hours before the opening match if someone is injured you're able to replace him, so it looks like Michael Dawson will be getting a call.

I don't usually follow football stuff, but I made a world cup song this year. Complete cheese and a bit of fun. Tell me what you think?

It has actually been a bit of an education for me. I got to know quite a few player names/faces whilst making this.

I hate that we seemingly have the only international player in the world who is unable to train regularly, yet be good enough to be considered third choice :( this whole king issue frustrates me every time it rears it's head - mainly because he's a spurs player, and i still can't switch into club mode.
