No sh*t Sherlock

We've already established that in fact the period between Ash Wed and Easter Sun is not in fact 40 days and 40 nights, no need to be sarky.

My 1st post was a JOKE !! something some of you do not seem to understand Jeeze...

Well, it didn't come across that way. Look at your rolling eyes smiley there - that's not 'laughter', that's 'oh my God you people are thick for getting this wrong'.

The girl I sit next to at work has given up 'nice food' for lent. I like to eat cakes in front of her. She loves me for it.

I've not given up owt, as I have no religous tie-ups, hence no motivation to take part in its ideas. I shall ignore ramadan too.

You should try and match the smiley with what you're trying to say, otherwise you essentially have emoticon tourettes

don't be a twat
don't be a twat
don't be a twat :-x
don't be a twat
don't be a twat
don't be a twat :)

a range of different emotional stresses, indicated by the EMOTicon. so for clear communication, you should use the appropriate one. or don't use it at all. otherwise it leads to situations like this.

It's not a forum rule, but as chrysostom says, if you don't use the appropriate one for what you're trying to convey it renders it pointless, so you may as well not use one at all.

Well, if you don't have time to consider whether the emoticon you're using is appropriate, don't use one at all. Simples.

Depends on how bothered you are about your meanings coming across correctly. If being misconstrued and potentially annoying people is okay with you, you're allowed to feel that way. Just don't act surprised when it happens.

I have no power to stop someone using, or make them use, emoticons, and I wouldn't want to! I would have the same opinion about that post regardless - the same one as yuds and chrysostom have expressed. I repeat: all I have done as a moderator, apart from tidying up that 37 things thread, is delete spam and ban spammers.
