That's actually an interesting point, they don't really teach you how to spell words. When I was in primary school we were given spelling lessons, but all that consisted of was memorising words, they said stuff like 'sound it out', but this is the English language, the sound is usually very misleading, especially with slang and the many words that are mispronounced now-a-days. They didn't really teach us the many rules for figuring out whether there was a double letter in a word, or how a vowel can change the sound of another vowel...education is unfortunately lacking is many basic areas.

I remember being taught about "magic E" in first school and "I before E", but other than that I don't specifically remember being taught rules. We probably were though, because I seem to know about most of them now.
